The Planetoid Raiders are getting ready to invade Kickstarter, and they’re bringing some headwear with them.
I mentioned these new action figures a few days ago with the news about the Cthuluchador and Ultimoth Warrior figures that Wandering Planet is doing, but now we have an exclusive first look at two new hats that will be available as part of Wandering Planet Toys’ upcoming Planetoid Raiders Kickstarter campaign. The retro-inspired hats celebrate the company’s new line of collectible space adventurers, as well as the mysterious Arcade Raiders.
If you think they look like knock-offs of the original Star Wars action figures Kenner released back in the day, well, that’s what they’re going for. I also feel a little Yo Gabba Gabba being channeled here, but that might just be me:
The Planetoid Raiders figures are a deliberately oddball tribute to the world of vintage knockoff science-fiction toys, particularly Tomland Toys’ Starroid Raiders line from the late 1970s.
The new figures come from Wandering Planet Toys co-founders and professional animation writers Gavin Hignight and Chris “Doc” Wyatt. The pair have designed the characters as a modern take on the strange, colorful space figures that populated toy aisles in the years surrounding the arrival of Star Wars.

The hats will be available exclusively through the Planetoid Raiders Kickstarter campaign, along with the Wave 1 action figures.
The first wave of figures includes Captain Oton, Helmsman Ryot, Buzz, Snatoon, Sloog, Warlor and Yogun, with each figure featuring five points of articulation and a 1:18 scale. Collectors will be able to get the figures on retro-inspired card backs or in a metal lunchbox-style collector’s case.
