Tony Fleecs and Tim Seeley are back together again for another new series following 2023’s excellent Local Man. Their new dark comedy series, The Princess Murders, will launch from Image Comics in December.
“The Princess Murders combines our love (and hate) for fairy tale animation and whodunnit slasher horror,” Seeley said. “It’s got all of the affection and innovation that’s become the hallmark of one of our collaborations—plus lots of really twisted ideas.”
The Princess Murders is, as the title suggests, about a princess who has been murdered, leaving her wicked stepsister and Fairy Godmother to find the killer. The story combines fairy tale characters with slasher conventions, landing somewhere between self-awareness and campy horror. Fleecs and Seeley will be joined by colorist Brian Reber on the project.
“Tim and I knew we wanted to make another series together, we just couldn’t land on what that would be,” said Fleecs. “We bounced around a bunch of ideas and nothing really sparked until Tim manipulated me by just smooshing two of my favorite things together. He said, ‘What if we did an Animated Princess Giallo?’ Immediately I saw what this could be and, just like when I had the idea for Stray Dogs, I knew Tim and I were specifically the people who had to make this book—the guy who made Hack/Slash and the guy from Stray Dogs? With colors by the genius colorist behind Marvel’s Spinstress? That’s who you want making your Animated Princess Slasher comic.”

The issue will feature eight covers, including a main cover by Seeley and Fleecs, with variants by Jenny Frison, Seeley and Allen Passalaqua, a Sleeping Beauty animation homage by Seeley and Passalaqua, a blank sketch cover, a polybagged NSFW variant by Seeley and Fleecs, a 1:50 cover by Suspiria and a virgin foil 1:100 cover by Frison.
The Princess Murders #1 will arrive in comic book stores Dec. 9.
