Digital comics site Neon Ichiban officially launches

Digital comics from Marvel, DC, Oni, IDW and more are now available to buy and sell on the digital marketplace.

Former Comixology executives/DSTLRY founders David Steinberger and Chip Mosher have gotten back into the digital comics game. Today they officially launched Neon Ichiban, which has been in beta since September.

The site is a marketplace, similar to what they launched as a part of DSTLRY back in 2024, where users can buy and sell digital comics from publishers and from each other. They call it “fusing frictionless reading with creator connection, resale and collectible culture” in the press release. The idea is that you own the digital release like you would a physical copy — and are able to sell it and even get it signed by the creators, using their Remarques technology. It’s essentially what they were doing with their own DSTLRY titles, but now includes other publishers.

Currently the site offers books by Dark Horse, DC, Dynamite Entertainment, IDW Publishing, Kodansha, Marvel Comics, Oni Press, Titan Comics, Vault Comics and, of course, DSTLRY, with content from Legendary Comics, Mad Cave Studios, Rebellion and UDON Entertainment coming soon.

“The comics business needs a cutting-edge digital marketplace built by people who care about comics and know how to build a platform that fans want to use,” said Damian Wassel, CEO and publisher of Vault Comics. “It needs to be a one-stop shop offering all the fan-favorite publishers. It’s hard to imagine a better team than David and Chip to get that done. After all, they already did it once. Everyone at Vault is excited to be a part of the launch of Neon Ichiban.”

Vault will publish ‘He Who Fights With Monsters’ graphic novels

The first adaptation of the hit fantasy series will arrive in 2024.

Vault Comics will team with Podium Publishing to bring He Who Fights With Monsters, the popular series of books by Travis Deverell, to comics.

He Who Fights With Monsters is among the best long-form fantasy series I’ve ever read,” said Vault CEO Damian Wassel in a press release. “I just can’t get enough of it. The whole team at Vault is so excited to bring Shirtaloon’s amazing world to life in the graphic novel medium.”

Deverell, whose pen name is Shirtaloon, has written nine books in this “Literary Role Playing Game” series, with a 10th arriving in November. It’s about an office-supplies-store middle manager who becomes a heroic interdimensional adventurer who battles cannibals, cultists, wizards, monsters and more.

Vault will publish music-inspired graphic novels through their Headshell imprint

Pete Wentz, Def Leppard, Metallica and more will rock their way into comics via the new imprint.

Vault Comics will team with several musicians for a new line of graphic novels called Headshell. Songwriter and producer Richard Rudolph, who has worked with everyone from Stevie Wonder to 2Pac, will “guide strategy and artist relations” for the new imprint.

According to the press release, Headshell will launch with Dying Inside from Fall Out Boy co-founder Pete Wentz, co-writer Hannah Klein and Witchblood artist Lisa Sterle. Alternative Press has a first look at the artwork.

“Creating a new graphic novel with Vault and one of my favorite writers, Hannah Klein, has been an insane experience–in the best possible way,” Wentz said. “Between her perspective, honesty, and super dark sense of humor and Vault’s creative support throughout the entire process, I’m excited to share it with the world soon.”
