Next spring a third Hellboy original graphic novel will arrive from Mike Mignola, Gary Gianni and Dave Stewart. Titled Hellboy: Into the Silent Sea, the OGN follows up on 2002’s “The Island” as we learn what happened next to our brave hero.
“The biblical Jonah was vomited up by a whale, but Hellboy might not be as lucky,” Gianni said in a press release. “A superstitious crew and a figure in black will make sure there’s no escaping the silent sea.” Taken captive by the phantom crew that plans to sell him to the circus, Hellboy is dragged along by a captain who will stop at nothing in pursuit of a powerful sea creature.

Adam P. Knave, D.J. Kirkbride and Nickolas Brokenshire update Arthurian legend in a new comic coming from Dark Horse next March.
The team behind the MonkeyBrain/IDW series Amelia Cole is putting the band back together for a new series that ties into the legend of King Arthur.
Dark Horse Comics announced today The Once and Future Queen, a five-issue miniseries by Adam P. Knave, D.J. Kirkbride and Nickolas Brokenshire, along with letterer Frank Cvetkovic. Per the release, a teen named Rani Arturus travels to the UK to compete in a chess championship, where she finds the sword Excalibur and meets a “surprisingly modern” Merlin.
The five-issue miniseries will cast a light on a long-brewing Hellboy mystery.
Hellboy’s universe is populated by all sorts of strange, magical characters drawn from myths and legends around the world — but also, on a couple occasions, from out of this world. Fans of the characters over the years may have noticed — and wondered about — a group of aliens seen in Hellboy: Seed of Destruction and Hellboy: The Conqueror Worm, and come next year, they’ll get some answers.
Due out next February is The Visitor: How and Why He Stayed, a five-issue series by Mike Mignola and Chris Roberson, featuring art by Paul Grist. (Grist! Seeing his promo art in the trailer, available below, makes you wonder why he’s never worked in the Mignolaverse before. He’s a natural for it. Also, I sure miss Mudman and Jack Staff). The book will feature these mysterious aliens and will “probe into a pivotal moment in Hellboy’s past for a surprising tale that harkens back to the character’s first ever appearance.”
P. Craig Russell, Scott Hampton and many more will adapt Neil Gaiman’s novel into a 27-issue comic series.
With all the attention on the upcoming television adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s American Gods novel, it’s no surprise that Dark Horse Comics has announced a comic book adaptation as well.
“There’s a tremendous amount of excitement, in my house and in the world, about the American Gods TV series coming up on Starz,” Gaiman said in a press release. “What we’ve managed to keep a secret until now is that there is something just as exciting out there: American Gods, the comic. I’ve been watching P. Craig Russell breaking down the book into comic form, watching Scott Hampton painting the pages, watching Glenn Fabry create the covers, and grinning to myself with delight, because the American Gods comic is going to be an astonishing, faithful and beautiful adaptation.”
Dark Horse announces two new projects due out in time for next April’s “Aliens Day 2017.”
In space, no one can hear you scream … with excitement. Dark Horse announced today that James Stokoe, creator of Orc Stain and Wonton Soup, will write and draw a four-issue Aliens series.
Per the press release, Aliens: Dead Orbit finds Wascylewsk, an engineering officer, trapped in a space station after a horrific accident. Wascylewsk is forced to use all available tools—a timer, a utility kit, and his wits—to survive an attack from the deadliest creature known to man. The first issue will feature a variant cover by Geof Darrow and goes on sale next April.
Dark Horse Comics will publish “Black Hammer Giant-Sized Annual” in January.
Black Hammer, Jeff Lemire and Dean Ormston’s comic about superheroes stuck outside their realities after a multiversal crisis, will get the annual treatment next year.

Joss Whedon’s Buffy the Vampire Slayer spinoff Angel will return to comics in January for Angel Season 11, by writer Corinna Bechko and artists Geraldo Borges and Michelle Madsen.
Published by Dark Horse Comics and following this summer’s announcement that Buffy would also return for an 11th “season,” the new series “finds Angel being tormented by memories of his past,” the press release states. “His visions link his dark past to a Big Bad coming in the future. The goddess Illyria intervenes and assists Angel as he discovers that it might be possible to change the future by traveling back in time to change the past.”

Joss Whedon’s “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” will continue to slay the undead courtesy of Dark Horse Comics and under the guidance of writer Christos Gage and artist Rebekah Isaacs. With Comic-Con International starting tomorrow, Dark Horse announced “Season 11,” which will run for 12 issues starting in November.
“Slayer: Repentless, Vol. 1” features a story by Jon Schnepp and Guiu Vilanova.
Just in time for the holidays, Dark Horse Comics will release a three issue miniseries taking inspiration from thrash-metal band Slayer. Jon Schnepp (“Metalocalypse”) will write the series, with Guiu Vilanova providing art and Glenn Fabry and Eric Powell providing covers.
Per the press release, the comic is inspired by music videos from Slayer’s recent album, “Repentless,” specifically for the songs “Repentless” and “You Against You.”

“Dark Horse is mapping out the issue, and if all goes well we’re looking at a Spring release,” Dorkin said on his LiveJournal. “However, we have some blank pages to fill in the back of the comic, and we’re trying to see if anyone has any questions or comments for us to print in a letters page for the issue. Even if we only fill a page, that’s one less ad in the issue and a little something extra to read. Right now we only have one letter. Eep.”
The Eisner Award-winning comic from Dark Horse Comics stars a group of dogs and cats that investigates supernatural events in their town. Beasts of Burden began as a recurring feature in the Dark Horse Book of … anthologies before graduating into its own miniseries. The animal protectors have also teamed up with Hellboy and appeared in Dark Horse Presents.

Francesco Francavilla takes to Twitter to tease the return of ‘The Black Beetle,’ his well-regarded pulp comic from Dark Horse.
Our long, national nightmare may soon be over, as creator Francesco Francavilla teased on Twitter the return of The Black Beetle. Francavilla posted an image of the pulp hero with the hashtags #TheYearOfTheBeetle and #BlackBeetleReturns.
The Black Beetle originally appeared on Francavilla’s website back in 2009, then Dark Horse brought him to comic shops in 2013. Their first miniseries, Black Beetle: No Way Out, received many accolades (including an Eisner nomination for best miniseries) and appeared on several “best of the year” lists. But a second miniseries, “Necrologue,” was scheduled but never made it out of the gate. But it looks like that might be changing this year:
