Preview Vault + Def Leppard’s ‘Hysteria’ graphic novel in a zero issue this October

It’s kind of like buying the single before the album is released.

Def Leppard’s arrival on the comic scene isn’t supposed to happen until next spring, but apparently that wait is just too long — a special “zero” issue featuring a preview of the graphic novel Hysteria will rocket into stores this October.

Named for the best-selling Def Leppard album, the graphic novel Hysteria is being co-written by the band’s guitarist, Phil Collen, and The Cursed Library scribe Eliot Rahal. It will feature artwork by Alex Schlitz, colorist Fabi Marques and letterer Andworld Design, and will be released through Vault’s musically inclined imprint Headshell.

“Blending music and comics together like this is an incredible and insane dream, and I could not be more thrilled by the work Eliot, Alex and Vault have put into Hysteria. It has been a joy and one hell of a ride. I know fans are going to love it,” Collen said.

BOOM! Studios will launch a new Power Rangers title this fall

‘Power Rangers Prime’ by Melissa Flores and Michael Yg will debut in November.

BOOM! Studios’ Mighty Morphin Power Rangers series ended in July, but it won’t be gone for long — Power Rangers Prime by Power Rangers TV producer Melissa Flores and Iron Fist artist Michael Yg will debut in November.

The new title is a reboot of the property, according to Flores, who wrote the end to the previous incarnation of the team. The new book will feature designs by Absolute Power artist Dan Mora.

“With Power Rangers Prime, we’re bringing the comics into a reimagined world,” Flores said. “Familiar characters and settings will pop up in unexpected ways, but this is an all-new adventure – a crazy journey I can’t wait to share with you that beats with the heart of what it means to be a Power Ranger.”

SDCC | Def Leppard + Vault Comics team for a graphic novel named after the band’s iconic album ‘Hysteria’

Def Leppard’s Phil Collen teams with Eliot Rahal and Alex Schlitz on the story of the world’s most dangerous guitar.

Vault Comics is no stranger to working with musicians, having released Deathstalker with Guns’n’Roses’ Slash and the upcoming Dying Inside with Fall Out Boy’s Pete Wentz. Now, through their Headshell imprint, they’ve announced a new graphic novel that shares a name with one of the best-selling albums of all time, Hysteria.

Co-written by Def Leppard guitarist Phil Collen and The Cursed Library scribe Eliot Rahal, the graphic novel will feature artwork by Alex Schlitz, colorist Fabi Marques and letterer Andworld Design.

“Blending music and comics together like this is an incredible and insane dream, and I could not be more thrilled by the work Eliot, Alex and Vault have put into Hysteria. It has been a joy and one hell of a ride. I know fans are going to love it,” Collen said.

The graphic novel will not only feature Def Leppard, but will introduce a band called Darkside, whose frontwoman inherits a guitar that promises her fame — but it comes with a price.

‘Barbaric: Born in Blood’ will delve into Owen’s bloody childhood

The do-gooder barbarian and his talking axe return next February.

Barbaric will return next year with a new miniseries, Born in Blood, written by Michael Moreci, drawn by Nathan Gooden, colored by Fabi Marques, lettered by Jim Campbell and designed by Tim Daniel.

Published by Vault Comics, Barbaric is the story of Owen, a cursed barbarian forced to do good, and his blood-hungry talking axe. This new story will show us Owen’s past — all the way back to his childhood.

“I’m so thrilled to announce the next big arc of Barbaric,” Gooden said. “This new arc is a deep dive into the history of Owen and the Barbarian clans. Readers get to see Owen as a child and how he becomes the ruthless Barbarian we all love. Friendships and alliances are splintering while Owen pushes against his curse. New characters and a brand new adventure will dramatically expand the world!”
