Nominees announced for the 57th annual NAACP Image Awards

‘Creaky Acres,’ ‘They Choose Violence’ and more were nominated this year.

The NAACP has released the nominees for the 57th NAACP Image Awards, which now includes an “Outstanding Literary Work – Graphic Novel” category.

The awards annually recognize the achievements and performances of people of color in film, television, music, literature and more, honoring artistic excellence, authentic storytelling, and the promotion of social justice and cultural representation.

The NAACP added the graphic novel category in 2024. Punk Rock Karaoke by Bianca Xunise won the award last year.

‘Edge of Spider-Verse’ returns with more multiversal Spidersonas

Collin Kelly, Jackson Lanzing, Travel Foreman and more will contribute to the first issue.

Marvel will return to the Spider-Verse next year for another shot of stories featuring alternate reality versions of Spider-Man. The four-issue Edge of Spider-Verse will kick off in February.

Much like the popular film series featuring Miles Morales and every other version of Spider-Man (and -Woman) you can imagine, these miniseries have introduced readers to new characters like Spider-Rex, Spider-Killer and Spinstress, the Disney princess Spidersona.

Smash Pages Q&A: Nilah Magruder on ‘M.F.K.’

The animator, illustrator and storyboard artist discusses the collection of her popular webcomic.

Nilah Magruder’s webcomic M.F.K. has been on hiatus recently but it remains a beloved by its fans (including me). The animator, illustrator and storyboard artist received the inaugural Dwayne McDuffie Award for the webcomic, an epic fantasy adventure about a hero on a quest – but not the kind of hero, epic or quest that most fantasy fans think about when they hear those words. Although it is very epic in a sense – journeys are hard for social recluses.

Last year saw the release of Magruder’s debut picture book, How To Find a Fox, and she’s currently working on a new book project, Creaky Acres. A print version of the the first three chapters of M.F.K. are out now from Insight Comics and Magruder answered a few questions about the book, promises she’s working on the comic, and more.
