No, you haven’t gone crazy — Marvel’s September solicitations include the previously announced Deadpool/Batman crossover, which will not only a story about the two characters in the title by Zeb Wells and Greg Capullo, but also stories featuring several other DC and Marvel meet-ups by an impressive crew of creators. They are:

  • Daredevil and Green Arrow by Kevin Smith and Andy Kubert.
  • Captain America and Wonder Woman by Chip Zdarsky and Terry Dodson.
  • Jeff the Land Shark and Krypto by Kelly Thompson and Gurihiru.

“Two ICONS meeting for the first time!” Thompson said. “It’s such an honor for Jeff to get to be Marvel’s ambassador in this crossover story with Krypto. Anyone who loves comics knows how rare it is for DC and Marvel to crossover, so Jeff getting to be part of this historic moment with Krypto, and Gurihiru and I getting to bring that tale to readers… well, sometimes this job is very cool.”

Frank Castle returns as the Punisher in a Red Band title this fall

Benjamin Percy and Julius Otha bring the original Punisher back to the streets this September.

After being whisked away to Weirdworld at the end of the 2022-2023 Punisher miniseries by Jason Aaron, Jesús Saiz, Paul Azaceta and Dave Stewart, Frank Castle will return to comics in Punisher: Red Band this September.

Billed as the “most violent” comic “in Punisher history,” the limited series is by the Hellverine team of writer Benjamin Percy and artist Julius Otha. Whether or not it will address the events of the previous Punisher miniseries featuring Frank Castle — or the reboot miniseries featuring Joe Garrison — remains to be seen.

“Frank Castle—that dark-hearted, vengeance machine, that monster who fights monsters—is one of my all-time favorite characters, and Punisher is a series I’ve been gunning to write for a long, long time,” Percy said. “Not only is Frank back in black, but this is a Red Band book. You know what that means. I’m going to lean in fully and push the very limits of my favorite genre: hairy psychopaths. This is going to be as gritty and bloody as it gets. Street-level mayhem awaits you. And Julius Ohta—who I collaborated with previously on Hellverine—is bringing all the blood and fire and rage to the page with his beautiful, terrifying art.”

Elektra gets the Red Band treatment in ‘Daredevil: Unleash Hell’

Erica Schultz and Valentina Pinti add a bloody new dimension to the Woman Without Fear’s adventures.

Writer Erica Schultz will continue to tell stories featuring Elektra Natchios in Daredevil: Unleash Hell – Red Band. The mature readers title will feature artwork by Blade and Immortal Thor artist Valentina Pinti.

This is Schultz’s third miniseries featuring the assassin-turned-superhero, but the first to fall into Marvel’s new mature readers line, which “allows Elektra to unleash unrestricted bloodshed against her targets,” according to Marvel. It comes polybagged to protect innocent eyes.

“It’s been such a pleasure to continue writing Elektra, especially donning the horns,” Schultz said. “In this new series, we have the opportunity to show that just because she doesn’t kill doesn’t mean she won’t make you wish she had. Elektra has been known for her brutality, and we’ll see that on display here. Also, with a Red Band rating, that means we can get real nasty with stuff. Don’t know what I mean? You will. Valentina Pinti and I are very excited to show you this new direction.”

‘Blade: Red Band’ by Bryan Edward Hill + C.F. Villa will launch in October

The new title will spin out of ‘Blood Hunt’ and come polybagged to protect the squeamish.

While Blood Hunt has raised a lot of questions about what’s going on with Blade, we know that the crossover event won’t be the end of the Daywalker’s story. Marvel has announced a “Red Band” title featuring the vampire hunter will launch in October.

Writer Bryan Edward Hill, who wrote the Blade comic that preceded Blood Hunt and the Midnight Sons: Blood Hunt miniseries that’s picked up on some of those threads, will write the title, with C.F. Villa (Avengers) on art. This is the second Red Band title coming out of Blood Hunt; Marvel had previously announced a Werewolf By Night title that is also labeled as Red Band. The “Red Band” label means it’ll come polybagged and have a “Parental Advisory” label on it, “to keep those weak of heart from experiencing its intensity.”

Jason Loo + Sergio Dávila’s ‘Werewolf by Night’ spins out of ‘Blood Hunt’

The ‘Red Band’ title will be aimed at mature audiences.

Jack Russell will play his part in this summer’s Blood Hunt event, but that’s only the beginning for the character.

Werewolf by Night: Blood Hunt writer Jason Loo will team with Sergio Dávila on a new Werewolf by Night ongoing series, which Marvel says will be in the same “Red Band” format they’re using for the more mature version of Blood Hunt — aka the one with the blood’n’guts that’ll come bagged with a warning. Each issue will be “labeled with a Parental Advisory and polybagged to keep those weak of heart from experiencing its intensity,” so, y’know, Little Timmy, stay away. This IS your daddy’s comic.

“Our team is delivering a very metal, monster comic and we’re not holding back,” Loo said. “I’m both shocked and impressed at myself for conjuring up these gruesome scenes from the dark recesses of my mind, then seeing them come to life with every gory detail thanks to penciler Sergio Dávila and inker JP Mayer, as our editors keep giving us the thumbs up of approval. This is literally our smash room in a Red Band comic.”
