October not only brings a change in the weather and the spooky Halloween season, but also a plethora of art challenges and events. Although there’s a bit of shadow over Inktober these days, that hasn’t stopped artists and creators from taking whatever prefix they want, sticking it in front of “-tober” and running with it on social media.

So yes, the fun continues all throughout the month, whether it’s Batober, Jacktober, Comictober or, yes, even Inktober. Let’s take a look at a few examples:

Comics Lowdown | A Charlie Hebdo survivor speaks

Plus: Lost Charles Schulz comics emerge, new graphic novel from Nnedi Okorafor and Tana Ford, and more!

The New York Times profiles cartoonist Corinne Rey, who was working in the offices of the French satirical weekly Charlie Hebdo on January 7, 2015, the day that two masked gunmen massacred the staff; Rey, who uses the pseudonym Coco, was just leaving the offices of Charlie Hebdo when two masked gunmen arrived and forced her to unlock the door. Her new graphic novel, To Draw Again, recently published in France, depicts that moment and its aftermath. Rey is now the resident cartoonist at the newspaper Libération, the first woman to hold that post.

‘Blackhand Ironhead’ returns for a second season

David Lopez’s digital comic returns at Panel Syndicate today.

David Lopez‘s Blackhand Ironhead returns for a second season today at Panel Syndicate, the digital comics website founded by Brian K. Vaughan, Marcos Martin and Muntsa Vicente. It’s available for download in Panel Syndicate’s traditional “choose your own price” model.

Lopez writes and draws the comic, while Kike J. Diaz provides the colors.

David Lopez’s ‘BlackHand & IronHead’ coming to print

The Panel Syndicate title arrives as a hardcover from Image Comics this fall.

BlackHand & IronHead, David Lopez’s 2017 digital comic published through Panel Syndicate, will make the jump to print later this year.

Image Comics announced via press release their intent to publish a hardcover collection of the comic in September.

“After many years working only as an artist in the big two, I’ve finally found the courage and I’ve written and drawn my own story, and I’m printing it in Image! Where the world’s best authors publish their works, this is a change of scale, suddenly my public is the whole world, can you believe it?!” said López. “BlackHand & IronHead is sincere, raw, unfiltered and personal, no obligations or compromises, exactly the story I imagined, that’s something I love as a reader and I hope people will love it from my book.”

‘Blackhand Ironhead’ debuts at Panel Syndicate

The first issue of David Lopez’s new “pay what you want” comic features family, superheroes and surprises.

Former Fallen Angel and Captain Marvel artist David Lopez returned to creator-owned comics today with Blackhand Ironhead, a “comedy about family, with superheroes, not about superheroes.” Like all of Panel Syndicate‘s titles, you can pay what you’d like for the first issue.

David Lopez teases new project from Panel Syndicate

Panel Syndicate, the digital imprint founded by Brian K. Vaughan and Marcos Martin, has published a small yet impressive set of “pay what you want” comics since they launched in 2013, including The Private Eye and Barrier from its founders and Albert Monteys’ Universe.

Now it looks like another creator is joining the line-up, as artist David Lopez has been posting process art and a logo for a new project titled Blackhand Ironhead.
