Coming out of the big Star Wars Celebration event that happened in Orlando last week, IDW Publishing has announced they’ve obtained the license to “create and publish new Star Wars comic books aimed at younger readers.” The first title is expected in the Fall, just in time for all the hype that’ll build for the release of Star Wars: The Last Jedi.
No word yet on creative teams, but the launch title will be called Star Wars Adventures.
“IDW has long sought to offer the next generation of comic book fans ample reading choices, and being able to provide Star Wars comics aimed directly at that audience is a massive thrill,” said IDW’s Chief Creative Officer Chris Ryall in a press release. “Disney has been a great collaborator with us and we’re very excited to delve into this particular corner of the galaxy.”
This isn’t IDW’s first foray into a galaxy far, far away, as they’re also the publisher of the upcoming Star Wars newspaper strip collections. They also publish several Disney titles aimed at “younger readers,” like Donald Duck and Uncle Scrooge. Edit: And now DuckTales and Tangled, it would seem, based on this Entertainment Weekly story.
