The Spider-Verse is heading into a new direction this August as writer Alex Segura and artist Scott Godlewski assemble ALL the Spidersonas in Spider-Society, a four-issue miniseries coming from Marvel.
If you picked up the recent Web of Spider-Man one-shot, which previewed several upcoming Spider-related stories, then you caught a glimpse of what’s to come. In it, Miguel O’Hara, aka Spider-Man 2099, was attacked by a Gwen Stacy from another universe who went on to become the Green Goblin (let’s call her Gwen Goblin from here on out). She’s part of a bigger group of multiversal Spider-villains called the Sinister Squadron, and it’ll take an army of Spiders, assembled by O’Hara and Madame Web, to stop them.
“We’ve had such a blast building toward and teasing Spider-Society in the pages of Web of Spider-Man and Edge of Spider-Verse,” Segura said. “I hope readers enjoy the amazing roster of Spider-Heroes we’re bringing together to face off a new, but eerily familiar threat.”
You can see “a fraction” of the characters being assembled in Pete Woods’ main cover, above. And here’s a variant for the first issue by Stanlet “Artgerm” Lau, featuring Spider-Gwen:
Godlewski will have his hands full with all these Spider characters.
“Scott Godlewski’s the perfect choice to bring our Spider-Verse adventure to life, and his take on the Spider-Heroes, from Spider-Man 2099 to Spider-Ramen, is spot-on,” Segura said. “Readers can expect a wild Multiversal ride full of surprises and fun character moments, evoking the Spider-Verse tales they love. August can’t come fast enough!”
Look fo the first issue to arrive on Aug. 14.
