Keep warm this winter with an adorable ‘Mutts’-themed blanket

The image is based on the cover to McDonnell’s newest book, ‘The Gift of Everything.’

Winter is coming, as they say, and there’s no better time to hunker down indoors with a fire, a few comics — and a blanket designed by Mutts creator Patrick McDonnell.

To celebrate the recent release of The Gift of Everything, McDonnell has released a new blanket on his website featuring a few characters fans might recognize:

This decorative woven blanket is made with 100% cotton, including 25% recycled cotton, and is woven by artisans in the United States using Jacquard looms. It’s made in an eco-conscious North Carolina facility that recycles 100% of its yarn, paper and plastic waste, and practices water reclamation methods to save thousands of gallons of water per day.

And if the artwork looks familiar, that’s because it is also the artwork used on the cover of McDonnell’s newest book:

Like its predecessor, 2005’s The Gift of Nothing, the new book features the popular characters from his comic strip, Mutts. In this holiday story, Mooch the cat is searching for the perfect gift for his best friend, Earl the dog, and questions what is perfect — with the answer being “Everything.”

The book was born from “an offhand comment my niece made at Thanksgiving in 2023,” McDonnell shared with us earlier this year. “She told me how much she loved my first children’s book, The Gift of Nothing, and suggested that maybe there was more to say about gifts from the heart.”

Visit the Mutts website for more information (and merch!).
