Welcome to Crowdpuncher, where we round up cool comics crowdfunding campaigns. If you’re looking to buy from or support a creator directly, you’ve come to the right place.
SWAT Kats: The Radical Squadron, the cult-classic cartoon from the 1990s, is returning as a comic. The project was first announced at the San Diego Comic-Con this past summer, and the crowdfunding campaign is now live on Kickstarter.
Titled “Megakat City Has Fallen,” the comic will be created by co-writers Frank J. Barbiere and Kevin Roditeli, with artwork by Jorge Corona and Sarah Stern. The Tremblay Bros., who created the cartoon series, are also involved, along with editor Joseph Illidge.
“Swat Kats was one of my favorite animated shows of its time because of its unique mix of adventure, characters with believable personalities, and city politics,” Illidge said. “Batman meets Blacksad. So when Kevin offered me the opportunity to join his radical squadron as editor, it was an automatic, ‘Let’s go!’ We’re looking forward to reigniting this world for you in a new era of high-level action with bigger stakes.”

Created by Christian and Yvon Tremblay, Swat Kats originally aired in 1993 on Cartoon Network and was produced by Hanna-Barbera. The new story will pick up with the destruction of Megakat City (as the title implies).
“From being a kid watching the show and filling notepads with missile designs for the Turbo Kat… to now being part of the first comic iteration of the Radical Squadron—it’s pretty awesome,” Corona said.

Dreamhouse

Robert Wilson IV, who has worked on Heartthrob, Knuckleheads, Barbaric, Bitch Planet and more, writes and draws this surreal, psychological story about identity, paranoia and the fear that the person you love might not be who you think they are.
Dreamhouse follows Jack and Jill (heh), a couple “working through a difficult time in their relationship while backpacking in the wilderness.” They go up a hill, but not for water — and when Jill is injured, Jack looks for help and stumbles upon a very weird house.
“At 80 pages, Dreamhouse is three to four times longer than a typically comic book but far shorter than the 200+ page book market graphic novel, making it a difficult sale to publishers and retailers,” Wilson says on the Kickstarter page. “It’s also a pretty wierd story that doesn’t conform to the genres most popular in American comics. These factors make traditional publishing pretty unlikely and not particularly commercial viable. However, I felt compelled to make it anyways.”
What’s the deal?
A digital edition is $10, while the physical book is $30 and comes signed. Higher tiers include sketch cards, original art and more.
