DC has announced José Luis García-López’s DC Classics Artist’s Edition, a 240-page oversized hardcover collecting original art from the artist’s six-decade career at the company, arriving next March.
García-López’s work on the DC Comics Style Guide shaped the DC characters’ visual identity for decades, and his runs on titles like Superman and The New Teen Titans established him as one of DC’s defining illustrators. The collection includes seven complete stories along with a curated selection of covers and rare pieces, with stories written by Alan Brennert, Gerry Conway, Paul Dini, Michael Fleisher and Paul Levitz, among others.
DC shared a look at several pieces included in the book, among them the original cover art for DC Comics Presents #1, a Lois Lane page from the DC Comics Style Guide, interior pages from DC Comics Presents #4 and #24, and the covers to Secret Origins #6 and Superman #322:
As with other Artist’s Edition releases, the collection is printed at the original 12-by-17-inch size of the pages and scanned in full color, despite the black-and-white appearance of the art, in order to preserve details like blue pencil marks, ink gradients and margin notes. The format was developed by Act 4’s Scott Dunbier, who curated this collection.
José Luis García-López’s DC Classics Artist’s Edition is priced at $150 and arrives March 23, 2027. A full list of included stories will be announced in the coming months.
