Marvel celebrates 50 years of Iron Fist in August

The anthology will feature stories by Chris Claremont, Lan Medina, Alyssa Wong, Ron Randal and more.

Marvel will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the first appearance of Iron Fist in August with a one-shot anthology featuring stories about both Danny Rand and Lin Lie.

The character first appeared in Marvel Premiere #15, published in 1974, in a story by Roy Thomas and Gil Kane. Since then Iron Fist has had his own title on numerous occasions, as well as appearing in places like Avengers, Defenders, Heroes for Hire and the long-running Power Man & Iron Fist title. We’ve also learned that the “Iron Fist” is a legacy, as various characters wielded it prior to Danny Rand, and we’ve seen others use it after him — including the young monk Pei, Wakandan bad ass Okoye and Lie, the former Sword Master.

Following his appearance in Marvel Premiere, Iron Fist spun off into his own title by Chris Claremont and John Byrne, which ran in the mid-1970s and featured appearances by Iron Man, Captain America, the X-Men and Sabretooth, who debuted in the title. For the anniversary one-shot, Claremont will team with artist Lan Medina for a new story from early in Danny’s career that will guest star Wolverine.

A new Iron Fist will debut in February

A new character will inherit the mantle from a powerless Danny Rand.

Marvel has announced that Danny Rand, who lost his powers in the excellent Heart of the Dragon miniseries, will pass on the mantle of Iron Fist to a new hero next year.

Iron Fist by Alyssa Wong and Michael YG will debut in February, and the five-issue miniseries will show the “hero’s journey” of the new Iron Fist, whose idnetity Marvel is keeping under wraps.

“It’s an incredible honor to introduce a new Iron Fist to the Marvel Universe. I’m excited to delve into the comic’s rich mythos and build on it. What does it mean for someone to take up the mantle of the Iron Fist right now, today? As a newcomer, how does one interact with legacy, and how does one honor it while forging a new path?” Wong told Marvel.com.

Luke Cage, Iron Fist, Daughters of the Dragon get ‘Digital Originals’ series

Marvel’s Netflix stars get new digital titles aimed at TV binge-watchers.

Following the somewhat stealthy release of Jessica Jones last Wednesday as the first of a new Marvel Digital Originals line, over the weekend Marvel announced via IGN three new digital titles coming later this year.

Jessica Jones will be joined by new titles featuring Luke Cage, Iron Fist and the Daughters of the Dragon. In addition, the already-started Cloak and Dagger digital series by writer Dennis Hopeless and artist David Messina has joined the line-up as well. Given that these comics are aimed at people who discover the characters on television, the titles make sense. I’m guessing at some point we might see Daredevil, Punisher and Runaways join the line.
