Steve Skroce’s ‘Tales of Wonder’ takes flight at Skybound this September

The artist returns to superhero comics with a story about two estranged Golden Age creators whose comic book creations turn out to be real.

Former Ektokid and Gambit artist Steve Skroce returns this fall with Tales of Wonder, a new limited series he’ll write and draw, with colors by Ian Herring and letters by Pat Brosseau.

The six-issue series will debut from Skybound/Image Comics in September.

The series follows Stu and Jake, two comic book creators whose friendship was forged during World War II and whose Wonder Comics creations grew into a cultural phenomenon, until the partnership collapsed under the pressures of the industry. Decades later, the two reunite to launch a cinematic universe based on their old characters, only to discover their superheroes and monsters are real, forcing them to set aside old grudges to help save the world.

BRZRKR returns in a new one-shot this summer

Keanu Reeves, Steve Skroce and Dave Stewart pit the title character against an ancient evil in ‘Poetry of Madness.’

BRZRKR may have ended last month, but you can’t keep a good immortal warrior down. BOOM! Studios has announced that writer Keanu Reeves will team with Steve Skroce and Dave Stewart on BRZRKR: Poetry of Madness in July.

The one-shot special will find the immortal B. facing off against a “Lovecraftian nightmare” in the ancient city of Atlantis.

“I loved the original BRZRKR series and I’m thrilled to be helping Keanu craft a tale of high fantasy and adventure in his creation’s singular, blood soaked style.  It’s action horror on a scale you can only get on the comics page,” said Skroce.

The 2018 Joe Shuster Award Nominations

Awards celebrate excellence in the Canadian comic creators and publications.

The nominations for the 2018 Joe Shuster Awards have been announced this week.  Commonly nickednamed “The Shusters”, they are Canada’s national comic book awards that honours and raises the awareness of Canadians that create, self-publish and sell comic books, digital comics and graphic novels.

The award winners will be chosen by a jury vote to ensure every nominee is given adequate consideration.

The ceremony will take place at the Montreal Comic Con July 6-8, 2018 at the Palais des congrès, Montreal, QC.

Steve Skroce returns to Image with ‘Maestros’

New “fantastical action-comedy” due in October.

After triumphant runs on Amazing Spider-Man, Gambit, Youngblood and Cable, Steve Skroce all but disappeared from comics to work on movie storyboards for films like the Matrix trilogy, I, Robot, V for Vendetta, Speed Racer, Cloud Atlas and Jupiter Ascending. But a couple years ago he made his return, working with Brian K. Vaughan on the We Stand On Guard limited series — and now he’s writing AND drawing a new series called Maestros.
