Amy Reeder to write and draw ‘Amethyst’ for DC

New monthly series begins in February.

Back when Brian Michael Bendis first announced his curated imprint for DC, Wonder Comics, he promised an Amethyst solo series was coming. At New York Comic Con this weekend, DC revealed that Amy Reeder of Rocketgirl and Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur fame, will write, draw and color the ongoing series.

“When I develop DC books one thing I try to achieve is that sense you got when Apple announced products that were so unexpected and yet made so much sense that you wondered how you got this far in life without it,” said editor Andy Khouri. “That is 100% Amy Reeder writing and drawing Amethyst.”

Here’s how DC describes the new series:

Following the character’s triumphant reintroduction in the pages of Young Justice, the new Amethyst series follows teenager Amy Winston, a.k.a. Princess Amethyst, as she returns to her magical kingdom to find it in ruins, her subjects vanished, and none in the realm of Gemworld still loyal to her house. To solve this mystery, restore House Amethyst, and save her family, Amy must find new allies and confront dark secrets on a deadly quest to the farthest reaches of Gemworld.

The new series launches in February.
