Two Eternals will meet the prehistoric Avengers in ‘Eternals: Celestia’

The one-shot by writer Kieron Gillen and artist Kei Zama arrives in October.

Ajak and Makkari of the Eternals will break out into their own one-shot this October, courtesy of Eternals writer Kieron Gillen and artist Kei Zama. The story will find the duo coming into contact with the Avengers of 1,000,000 BCE, who have played a big part in Jason Aaron’s run on Avengers.

“When developing Eternals, Ajak and Makkari were two of the characters I was most excited about,” Gillen told Marvel.com. “I had so many ideas. The problem was trying to find a place to introduce them in a way which gives enough space to show what a fascinating, funny and genuinely heartbreaking odd-couple they are. Suffice to say, this is the space, and I can’t wait to show what Kei, Esad and I have cooked up with them. Also, taking the Avengers of 1,000,000 BCE out for a spin. I’ll be honest – the first time I saw Ghost Rider on the back of a Mammoth, I did think ‘I’ll be having some of that, thank you very much.’”

Source Point Press will explore ‘The Winchester Mystery House’ in a new series

Joshua Werner and Dustin Irvin team up for a tale about San Jose, California’s creepiest tourist attraction.

San Jose’s infamous tourist attraction The Winchester Mystery House is getting the comic treatment once again in a new series from Source Point Press.

If you aren’t familiar with it, the Winchester Mystery House was the home of Sarah Lockwood Pardee Winchester, the widow of William Wirt Winchester and heiress to a large portion of the Winchester rifle fortune. After losing her husband and child, Sarah moved from Connecticut to San Jose, California where she bought a farmhouse. From 1886 to 1922, construction seemingly never ceased as the original eight-room farmhouse grew into the world’s most unusual and sprawling mansion. Supposedly it is haunted by all the ghosts of people killed by Winchester firearms.

The new comic will be written by Joshua Werner and illustrated by Dustin Irvin.

“The Winchester Mystery House is a labyrinth full of secrets, and it is my great pleasure to bring those secrets to the reader and unravel them,” Werner said. “Sarah Winchester was a brilliant person, incredibly ahead of her time, and deliciously complex. Weaving her tale and the story of this house into the comic book medium with the beautiful art of Dustin Irvin is a dream come true. And the reader is in for some shocks and surprises.”

‘Afterlift’ team reunites for ‘The All-Nighter’

Chip Zdarsky, Jason Loo and the rest of the award-winning team will work with comiXology Originals again on a new series about vampire superheroes.

The award-winning creative team behind comiXology Original’s Afterlift reunite next year for The All-Nighter, a new series about vampires who decide to become superheroes.

Writer Chip Zdarsky, artist Jason Loo, colorist Paris Alleyne, letterer Aditya Bidikar and editor Alison O’Toole will tackle this superhero/horror mash-up.

“Working on Afterlift was an amazing experience, especially getting to see the beautiful pages coming in from Jason, Paris and Aditya,” said Zdarsky. “I knew I wanted to work with them again immediately, and I’m super grateful that we have the chance with The All-Nighter! It’s a ton of fun and I hope everyone loves it as much as I do!”

Smash Pages Q&A: Ira Marcks on ‘Shark Summer’

The cartoonist and teacher discusses his latest graphic novel, which combines his love of ‘Goonies,’ ‘Jaws’ and more.

In the new graphic novel Shark Summer, three friends on Martha’s Vineyard, inspired by a film about a shark being filmed on the island, spend their summer trying to make a film and solve a local mystery. It’s a familiar story, but the middle grade adventure is a fun and dangerous kinetic adventure of three kids coming together for an unforgettable summer that will shape each of them in different ways.

Ira Marcks has been working as a cartoonist, illustrator and teacher for years. He’s made projects that range from The Exploit and Aquarium Drift to the project Creative Everyday to to the webcomic Witch Knot, to Harvey Pelican & Co., a catalogue of esoteric things that ran in Weird Tales. Shark Summer is a departure for him, but it’s also the work of a talented and dynamic storyteller and hopefully this powerful book will find him a new audience.
