A character Jeremy Robinson created more than 30 years ago is finally making his debut this fall. Vault Comics has announced One Zero Zero One Saves the World, a new science-fiction comic series written by Robinson, drawn and lettered by Tiago Palma and colored by Manuel Rodriguez. The first issue is scheduled for November.
The series follows 1001, a genetic experiment who awakens hundreds of years after a post-apocalyptic catastrophe. Confused and alone, 1001 quickly discovers that his ability to adapt to virtually any threat is going to be put to the test when he finds himself hunted by a pack of vicious creatures.
Robinson created the character while he was in college. Originally named Ralph, the character appeared in an eight-page comic Robinson created for an anthology. Robinson eventually moved into screenwriting and novels, but the character remained with him. When he launched his own comic-book production house, Breakneck Comics, he decided it was finally time to bring the character back, with the new name 1001.
“Tiago Palma is the perfect artist to bring 1001 to life,” Robinson said. “He perfectly captures 1001’s confused innocence, gamut of emotions, and strange, deadly, and sometimes hysterical transformations. Manuel Rodriguez’s colors are vivid, making each page pop, as usual. Now, after all this time, the creature conjured by my 18-year-old self has come to life. Feels good!”
One Zero Zero One Saves the World will be the latest project from Robinson’s Breakneck Comics imprint, which he launched to publish original graphic novels and comics alongside his prose career. Robinson is the author of nearly 100 novels, including Infinite, The Others and the Good Boys trilogy. He and Palma recently teamed up for Excommunicated, which was also published by Vault.
