‘X-Men Legends’ will tell new stories from the team’s past

First story arc will feature Fabian Nicieza and Brett Booth returning to the “lost Summers brother” storyline.

Marvel has announced another X-Men series, X-Men Legends, that should be a treat for old school fans. It will feature revolving storylines by classic writers like Chris Claremont, Louise Simonson, Larry Hama, Peter David and others, who will “dive into the rich history of the X-Men to tie up loose ends, resolve long-standing plot danglers, and reveal shocking truths that will change the past and future of the X-Men.”

’90s X-Men writer Fabian Nicieza will write the first arc, which revisits the “third Summers brother” storyline that featured Adam-X. Adam-X, who debuted in X-Force Annual #2 way back in 1993, was rumored to be the third Summers brother, but as fans know, that turned out to be Vulcan.

Nicieza will be joined by artist Brett Booth on this arc.

Dark Horse announces ‘Young Hellboy: The Hidden Land’

Mike Mignola, Tom Sniegoski, Craig Rousseau, Dave Stewart and Clem Robins team up for an untold tale from Hellboy’s past.

Dark Horse Comics will reveal an as-yet-untold adventure from Hellboy’s past in Young Hellboy: The Hidden Land. The four-issue miniseries will be co-written by Hellboy creator Mike Mignola and Tom Sniegoski, with art by Craig Rousseau, colorist Dave Stewart and letterer Clem Robins. Matt Smith will provide the covers.

“Awhile back (when you could still do such things) I was at a convention in Boston and ducked out for lunch with Tom Sniegoski,” said Mignola. “Years earlier we co-wrote a more-than-slightly insane novel together, Grim Death And Joe The Electrocuted Criminal, and I brought up the idea of the maybe slightly insane globetrotting adventures of a very young Hellboy. Tom’s eyes lit up, as I kind of knew they would. So there was half the battle won, but we would need a special kind of artist to bring Tom’s madman energy to the page—and artist Craig Rousseau just happens to be that artist. And Craig just happened to be at that same convention, and when I told him the idea his eyes lit up just the way Tom’s had. It was almost too easy, and I’m happy to say the results are everything I could have hoped for.”

Marvel announces ‘Predator’ omnibus

Marvel will collect older material featuring the alien hunter that was originally published by Dark Horse.

Marvel has announced plans to release many older Predator stories in an omnibus collection next year.

Much like the previously announced Aliens omnibus, the stories being collected were originally published by Dark Horse Comics over the last few decades, when they had the license to publish comics based on the 1987 film. Some of the creators who will be featured include Mark Verheiden, John Arcudi, Andrew Vachss, Chris Warner, Ron Randall, Mark Bright, Evan Dorkin and many others.

BOOM!’s ‘Wynd’ will return in 2021

The series by James Tynion IV, Michael Dialynas and Aditya Bidikar will continue with new issues next year.

BOOM! Studios has announced that Wynd, the five-issue miniseries by The Woods team of James Tynion IV, Michael Dialynas and Aditya Bidikar, will return with issue #6 in May.

The series, which was originally supposed to be a graphic novel, was released early and as a miniseries as a way to help retailers when the comics industry returned from its COVID-19 lockdown earlier this year.

“James, Michael, and Aditya have built a world so steeped in magic and adventure, it’s been an absolute pleasure to see it all unfold,” said Eric Harburn, Senior Editor, BOOM! Studios. “Wynd’s story is far from over, and we can’t wait to show fans and new readers alike what’s in store for the magical winged boy and his friends as they journey across Esseriel in search of the place they truly belong.”

Marvel’s Demon Rider will ride again in 2021

Kushala, who first appeared in ‘Doctor Strange and the Sorcerers Supreme,’ will return next year in a solo series.

Kushala the Demon Rider, who first appeared in 2016 in Marvel’s Doctor Strange and the Sorcerers Supreme title, all but disappeared from the comic pages after that title was cancelled, but she’s going to come back … with a vengeance.

First, Marvel has announced another variant cover by artist Jeffrey Veregge for Marvel Voices: Indigenous Voices, the one-shot anthology featuring stories about Marvel characters by Native American creators. And it features the Demon Rider:

‘Dead End Kids’ returns from Gogol + Cviticanin in January

‘Dead End Kids: The Suburban Job’ explores the lives of the kids from the first series post-9/11.

Frank Gogol and Nenad Cviticanin will team up once again for Dead End Kids: The Suburban Job, a sequel to the previous Dead End Kids series about teens who searched for the killer of one of their friends in the late 1990s. This new series follows the kids into the 2000s as they deal with their trauma following the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks in New York.

“At first, I wasn’t sure if I wanted to write more Dead End Kids, but with the success of the first book, I started to wonder if there was more to say,” said Frank Gogol. “I decided to go back to the core concept of the original series — childhood trauma and how it affects us as we get older — and I kept coming back to this idea of September 11th.”

Titan Comics announces ‘Blade Runner Origins’

The prequel to ‘Blade Runner’ will kick off in February.

Titan Comics will take a look back at the creation of the Blade Runner division from the popular film franchise in a new series called Blade Runner Origins.

The creator team for the series will be Mike Johnson, co-writer of Titan’s Blade Runner 2019; K. Perkins of Batwoman, Wonder Woman and Supergirl fame; and screenwriter Mellow Brown (American Gods).

Declan Shalvey pits Immortal Hulk against a new villain in ‘Flatline’

The one-shot arrives in January.

Following the Immortal Hulk: The Threshing Place one-shot earlier this month from Jeff Lemire and Mike Del Mundo, Marvel has announced another one-shot featuring the character, this time written and drawn by Declan Shalvey (Bog Bodies, Moon Knight).

“What Al Ewing and Joe Bennett have accomplished with Immortal Hulk is astounding. I love how the book has given the character a new twist that has expanded what can be done with (and said about the) character,” Shalvey told Marvel.com. “To get to play in this particular sandbox with this one-shot is such a thrill, it’s a great challenge as a storyteller, to add to this new mythology as both a writer and artist. Big, Hulk-sized boots to fill, I hope it lives up to the great work already accomplished by the Immortal Hulk team.”

Maestro returns in January for another miniseries

Peter David and Javier Pina tell more stories of the Hulk’s evil, future self.

Peter David will once again dive into the futuristic dystopia created by the Hulk in Maestro: War & Pax. This time he’s joined by artist Javier Pina to tell the story of the Hulk’s futuristic, evil alter-ego, who was introduced in the landmark Future Imperfect miniseries.

“I am thrilled that, 20 years after I created him, the Maestro still intrigues people so much that the first series garnered the sort of success that demanded a follow-up,” David told Marvel.com. “As long as folks want to keep reading about him, I’m happy to keep giving them stories.”

Michel Fiffe returns to self-publishing ‘Copra’

Image Comics will still release collected editions of the comic.

Michel Fiffe will once again self-publish his popular Copra series, starting with issues #38 and #39. Both are available for pre-order via his Etsy shop.

After self-publishing Copra for 31 issues, Fiffe moved the comic to Image Comics last year. The publisher released collections of all the previous issues, as well as six single issues, which were re-numbered. Fiffe is picking up with the previous numbering with the new issues.

“Snapping back into legacy numbering. Original paper stock was called in. Copra Press has reopened its doors,” Fiffe said on Twitter. He also noted that digital editions will be released around the time the physical issues become available.

Kindt + Lesniewski tackle folk tales + conspiracies in ‘Crimson Flower’

The four-issue miniseries starts in January.

Dark Horse Comics has announced a new series, Crimson Flower, coming from Matt Kindt, Matt Lesniewski and Bill Crabtree.

The four-issue miniseries will follow a woman who uses folk tales to cope with the loss of her family during a home invasion. But as she plots her revenge, she discovers a government plot to use folk tales to turn children into super assassins.

“‘Cold blooded Russian assassins?’ We’ve seen that before. But assassins trained using Slavic folktales as a brainwashing device? That’s something new that really needed a unique visual style,” Kindt said. “When I saw Matt Lesniewski’s book The Freak (nominated for an Eisner) I knew he was going to do something like we’ve never seen before. Our collaboration was alchemy – turning this book into a brutal, heartbreaking, psychedelic journey of a woman intent on revenge-killing every assassin that ruined her life.”

Clowns take the center ring in Prince’s ‘Haha’

The new anthology series from W. Maxwell Prince and Image Comics begins in January.

Image Comics has announced a new anthology title called Haha, written by W. Maxwell Prince and drawn by a variety of different artists. Each issue will include a done-in-one story about a professional clown, the only thing in the universe scarier than the main character in Prince’s Ice Cream Man series.

“I don’t like clowns, so I thought it’d be a good idea to write about them,” Prince said. “What a gas, to get to partner with some of comics’ best to tell these ditties about a bunch of real jokers.”
