Slugfest | Vertigo returns in DC’s February solicitations

Plus: Gotham City Sirens go Black Label, a return to Dakota, and a DC K.O. special that opens the forbidden door …

Slugfest is a roundup of cool announcements about projects coming to a shelf near you. This edition focuses on DC’s February 2026 solicitations.

One of the big announcements to come out of the 2024 New York Comic Con was the return of Vertigo, DC’s long-running mature readers imprint that was shuttered back in 2019 in favor of DC’s Black Label imprint. While Black Label will continue as the home for more mature stories about DC’s existing characters, Vertigo is back as a creator-owned imprint, and at this year’s New York Comic Con, DC announced a full Vertigo slate for 2026 — which kicks off in February.

The first four out the gate include three new creator-owned titles and the return of another — The Nice House by the Sea, whose seventh issue leads the pack.

Plus: Absolute Zatanna debuts, Kyle Rayner gets in the ring and Supergirl celebrates Valentine’s Day.

Slugfest is a roundup of cool announcements about projects coming to a shelf near you. This edition focuses on DC’s January 2026 solicitations.

DC K.O. continues in January, with the previously announced tie-in books like Knightfight and Superman, but also in two new one-shots.

Let’s look first at DC K.O.: The Kids Are All Fight Special #1, which picks up on some of the plot lines introduced in Titans — specifically Granny Goodness showing up to give our heroes, including Jon Kent/Superman, a hard time as they try to evacuate Earth.

DC’s Absolute villains unite in ‘Absolute Evil’ this October

See what DC has in store for the Absolute titles as they celebrate their first year.

Almost a year to the day that DC announced their “All In” publishing plans and the birth of the Absolute Universe, the publisher has revealed what October has in store for our Absolute heroes (and villains).

October of last year brought the first Absolute titles, as Absolute Batman, Absolute Wonder Woman and Absolute Superman made their way to comic shops. Those first issues went on to achieve phenomenal sales and critical acclaim, and DC continues to issue reprints for those and subsequent issues.

In a universe that’s built on putting our heroes at a disadvantage, this October will see several villains from across the Absolute Universe join forces and target the heroes. The Absolute Evil one-shot will bring that alliance to the forefront.

My favorite comics of 2024

And some favorite graphic novels as well.

It’s been a number of years since I’ve put together a list of my favorite comics of the year, something I used to do on a regular basis back in the Blog@ or Robot 6 days. So this year I thought, “Screw it; just list your top 10 and be done with it.” So, here are my 10 — no, wait; I narrowed it down to 11, not 10 — 11 favorite comics, as well as five graphic novel favorites. I did not read as many graphic novels this year as I typically would for various reasons, but these are five I really liked.

So without further ado, here they are, in no particular order …
