Frank Miller’s ‘300’ prequel due next year

Check out new preview art for ‘Xerxes: The Fall of the House of Darius and the Rise of Alexander.’

Entertainment Weekly reports that Frank Miller’s 300 prequel will arrive next year from Dark Horse Comics.

With quite the mouthful for a title, Xerxes: The Fall of the House of Darius and the Rise of Alexander will “focus on the Persian emperor Xerxes, the so-called ‘King of Kings’ who raised a massive army to invade Greece in the fifth century B.C. to get revenge for his father’s death and become a god,” according to EW. “The title suggests the story will also look forward to the rise of Alexander the Great, who destroyed the Persian Empire a few centuries after Xerxes’ reign.”

Miller has talked about doing the comic for a while, at least as far back as 2009-2010.

Smash Pages Q&A: May + Copland on ‘Kill All Monsters’ Omnibus

Michael May and Jason Copland discuss the massive collection of their giant monster series coming from Dark Horse, the future of the series and more.

Michael May and Jason Copland have been working on Kill All Monsters! for more than a decade now, and come July they — and you — will see all their work on it collected into an omnibus from Dark Horse Comics.

And in the interest of full disclosure, I should mention that I’ve been blogging with Michael in some form or fashion for about a decade now myself. So I’ve watched from ringside as KAM progressed from a webcomic to a Kickstarter project to a story in Dark Horse Presents and now to this giant-sized collection. It’s a fun story about an Earth overrun with giant monsters and the humans trying to take it back. I’m glad I’ve gotten to watch it come to life, just as I’m happy to talk with the two of them about the project’s origins and what comes next for this world they’ve created.

IDW will publish a one-shot featuring Stan Sakai’s famous ronin rabbit encountering the current rendition of the Turtles.

de Campi, ChrisCross pull the trigger on ‘Bankshot’

New comic from Dark Horse promises high-octane, no holds barred action.

In conjunction with this week’s Emerald City Comic Con, Dark Horse Comics has announced Bankshot, a “no-holds-barred action story” by writer Alex de Campi, artist ChrisCross and colorist Snakebite.

The book stars an anti-hero named Marcus King, who is hired by the Russian government to reclaim a KGB lab in the Ukraine. “With everything on the line, Marcus needs to become for real the man he has always pretended to be. He also needs to punch a shitload of dudes and blow a lot of stuff up,” the press release reads.

‘Zodiac Starforce’ returns from Dark Horse this summer

‘Cries of the Fire Prince’ reunites creators Kevin Panetta and Paulina Ganucheau for another tale starring the team of magical teenage girls.

With Emerald City Comic Con just a few days away, Dark Horse has began rolling out the announcements — including one for a new Zodiac Starforce miniseries.

Subtitled “Cries of the Fire Prince,” the new series by Kevin Panetta and Paulina Ganucheau follows the original series, Zodiac Starforce: By the Power of Astra, which landed in comic shops back in 2015.

Hellboy sets sail — with ghosts! — in ‘Into the Silent Sea’

Check out a preview of the original graphic novel, coming next spring from Dark Horse.

Next spring a third Hellboy original graphic novel will arrive from Mike Mignola, Gary Gianni and Dave Stewart. Titled Hellboy: Into the Silent Sea, the OGN follows up on 2002’s “The Island” as we learn what happened next to our brave hero.

“The biblical Jonah was vomited up by a whale, but Hellboy might not be as lucky,” Gianni said in a press release. “A superstitious crew and a figure in black will make sure there’s no escaping the silent sea.” Taken captive by the phantom crew that plans to sell him to the circus, Hellboy is dragged along by a captain who will stop at nothing in pursuit of a powerful sea creature.

‘The Once and Future Queen’ imagines King Arthur as a chess champ

Adam P. Knave, D.J. Kirkbride and Nickolas Brokenshire update Arthurian legend in a new comic coming from Dark Horse next March.

The team behind the MonkeyBrain/IDW series Amelia Cole is putting the band back together for a new series that ties into the legend of King Arthur.

Dark Horse Comics announced today The Once and Future Queen, a five-issue miniseries by Adam P. Knave, D.J. Kirkbride and Nickolas Brokenshire, along with letterer Frank Cvetkovic. Per the release, a teen named Rani Arturus travels to the UK to compete in a chess championship, where she finds the sword Excalibur and meets a “surprisingly modern” Merlin.
