Sophie Campbell will write and draw a new Supergirl series

The Woman of Tomorrow will return to Midvale to confront an imposter Supergirl in May.

Supergirl will return to her own series later this year courtesy of Wet Moon creator and former Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles writer/artist Sophie Campbell.

The new series will debut in May, with Campbell both writing and drawing it. The “Summer of Superman” tie-in series will find Supergirl back in Midvale, the suburb of Metropolis where she used to live, dealing with a mysterious imposter Supergirl who is now protecting the town.

“I came up in the comics industry doing mostly graphic novels that I wrote and drew myself, so doing the same with Supergirl feels like I’m returning to my storytelling roots,” said Campbell. “My main touchstones to Kara Zor-El were the stories and the wild costumes from the 70’s, the 1984 Supergirl movie, and the CW show, which I was a huge fan of. In creating this version of Supergirl, I’ll be drawing on some of those influences as the series unfolds.”

Al Letson + Valentine de Landro will explore the origin of Mr. Terrific

The six-issue miniseries begins in May.

Journalist Al Letson, host of the radio show and podcast Reveal, will make his return to comics later this year at DC Comics, where he’ll team with artist Valentine de Landro on a Mr. Terrific miniseries that retells the hero’s tragic origin.

They’ll work with colorist Marissa Louise, letterer Lucas Gattoni and a second artist, Edwin Galmon, who will “provide present-day sequences integral to the story.”

“Valentine and I are diving deep and telling the origin story of who Mr. Terrific is as a man, and as a super hero,” said Letson. “I’ve loved Valentine’s work for years, and working on this series has been a dream. I can’t wait for fans to see what we’re cooking up.”

Harley Quinn + Elvira will meet in a crossover; chaos to ensue

Jimmy Palmiotti and Amanda Conner will bring the two icons together.

Two pop culture dynamos will meet up in a crossover series written by Jimmy Palmiotti and Amanda Conner this summer. Dynamite Entertainment has announced that Elvira, Mistress of the Dark will “pair up” with DC’s Harley Quinn.

“What do you get when you slam a Maid of Mischief and a Mistress of the Dark together?” Conner said. “Sheer chaos, escapades and fun! Holee pandemolee, who WOULDN’T wanna see the Vivacious Elvira and the Hijinky Harley Quinn get together for a bunch of wisecracking and clowning around? And a bit of naughtiness. Okay. Maybe a lot. I can’t wait to work on this book!”

‘Aquamanatee’ joins DC’s 2025 all-ages graphic novel line-up

Ben Clanton and Cassandra Federman introduce a new undersea hero who craves adventure and toots a lot.

Narwhal and Jelly creator Ben Clanton is teaming with This Is a Sea Cow illustrator Cassandra Federman for a fun, all-ages graphic novel from DC, titled Aquamanatee.

The story will introduce Marlow the manatee, who has visions of adventure and super-heroics that come true when he gains super powers and teams up with his idol, Aquaman.

‘Don’t blame me, I voted for Lex’: A quick history of a billionaire’s brief presidency

At the turn of the millennium, the DC Universe faced unprecedented times when Lex Luthor became the 43rd president of the United States.

Some 25 years ago, the United States of America went through a gut-twisting presidential election, when Vice-President Al Gore faced off against Texas Governor George W. Bush. As that fateful November evening drew to a close, no one was quite sure what would happen …

… and then Lex Luthor won.

This is the story of the DC Universe’s 43rd President of the United States, Alexander Joseph “Lex” Luthor.

Now, keep in mind this is not quite the original Lex Luthor, introduced in April 1940’s Action Comics #23 by Superman’s creators Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster. For decades, that character was a criminal scientist who (in a later incarnation) had resented Superman ever since their shared adolescence in Smallville. No, this was Luthor the once-and-future Metropolis tycoon, as rebooted by John Byrne, Marv Wolfman, Andy Helfer and company starting in the summer of 1986, who could not stand having to share the spotlight with some strange visitor from another planet.

With James Gunn’s Superman film arriving this summer, it’s no surprise that the Man of Steel is front and center in DC’s publishing plans for the year. The “Summer of Superman” will officially kick off in April with Summer of Superman Special #1.

The one-shot will be written by three writers — incoming Superman Unlimited writer Dan Slott, current Superman writer Joshua Williamson and all-around Krypton-ologist Mark Waid. They’ll be joined by artist Jorge Jiménez for a three-act story that will feature the wedding of Lana Lang and John Henry Irons.

This year’s DC Power special leads into a reboot of the Power Company

Bryan Edward Hill, Khary Randolph and Alitha Martinez bring a new team of heroes together in ‘The Power Company: Recharged.’

The Power Company, a team from the early aughts created by Kurt Busiek and Tom Grummett, will get a reboot later this month in DC Power: Rise of the Power Company.

DC has released several DC Power specials in recent years in conjunction with Black History Month, which takes place in February here in the United States. This year the special will not only kick off a new iteration of The Power Company, but will feature stories starring the new line-up for the team — who will go on to appear in a one-shot this April.

“Company Man” is a two-part prelude to April’s The Power Company: Recharged, by Black Lightning writer Brandon Thomas with art by Charles Stewart III, Anthony Fowler Jr., and Ulises Arreola. If you’ve been reading Thomas’ excellent Black Lightning series, you’ve seen Josiah Power, the founder of The Power Company, in his reintroduction to the DC Universe. Thigns aren’t going well for him:

As Power grieves over the death of his nephew Daniel due to the actions of Amanda Waller, and as his own energy-manipulating powers are growing out of control, he quickly realizes that a new iteration of the Power Company may be the only solution to the problem of growing anti-meta sentiment, and Jefferson Pierce, a.k.a. Black Lightning, is the key.

DC’s 2025 Free Comic Book Day plans include ‘Superman Unlimited,’ Absolute Universe + more

The publisher has announced plans for three titles that’ll be available for the event on May 3.

Earlier today DC revealed some of their Free Comic Book Day plans when they announced Superman Unlimited, and they’ve followed that with an announcement about their full plans for 2025 — which will include three FCBD titles.

DC All In/Absolute Universe 2025 FCBD Special Edition will be a flipbook containing two stories — the previously announced “zero issue” of Superman Unlimited written by Dan Slott with art by Rafael Albuquerque and Marcelo Maiolo, and a new story set in the Absolute Universe by Absolute Flash writer Jeff Lemire, with art by Giuseppe Camuncoli and Stefano Nesi.

The other two titles will preview upcoming graphic novels — the early-reader targeted Superman’s Good Guy Gang and the middle-grade OGN Kanga-U: Tests and Tournaments.

Dan Slott + Rafael Albuquerque team for ‘Superman Unlimited’ this May

The new title signals the ‘Summer of Superman’ is coming.

Longtime Marvel/Spider-scribe Dan Slott is “all in” at DC this summer, as he and artist Rafael Albuquerque will launch a new Superman ongoing series, Superman Unlimited, in May.

DC will share a preview of the new series in DC All In 2025 FCBD Special Edition #1, as part of their Free Comic Book Day offering. They haven’t officially announced their FCBD plans yet, so it’s possible they could have other books as well.

Superman Unlimited is part of a bigger publishing initiative for the Superman family this summer, which they’re appropriately calling the “Summer of Superman.” Which of course lines up nicely with the big Superman movie by James Gunn that’s coming in July.

This isn’t Slott’s first time writing the character, as he wrote some issues of Superman Adventures early in his career. But writing an ongoing Superman title is something he’s been waiting to do ever since. His story already sounds like he’s taking a “Big Time” approach, as “Green K” begins transforming the world, the Daily Planet expands its reach and footprint under Lois Lane, and they even get a new IT pro from Gorilla City.

“He’s the first and the greatest superhero of all-time, and I’ve been waiting my whole life to tell stories about him,” said Slott, “Not just because of all the amazing powers he has, but because of who he is inside. Rafael Albuquerque and I are going to take him—and you—to places you’ll want to escape to every month. Millions of surprising ideas for Superman, Lois, the supporting cast, classic rogues, and all-new friends and foes too. Ram V + Anand RK resurrect a cult classic DC character

‘Resurrection Man: Quantum Karma’ brings Mitch Shelley back to life for a six-issue Black Label series.

Ram V, Anand RK and Butch Guice are bringing Resurrection Man back to life in a Black Label series coming from DC in April. They’ll be joined by colorist Mike Spicer and letterer Aditya Bidikar for Resurrection Man: Quantum Karma.

This six-issue prestige series brings back Mitch Shelley, the Resurrection Man. Originally created by Dan Abnett, Andy Lanning, and Guice, Shelley debuted in 1997 in an ongoing series that lasted 27 issues. Abnett and Lanning later resurrected the character as a part of DC’s New 52 initiative, but that series only lasted 13 issues. The Resurrection Man has lived thousands of lives throughout history, mingling with Vandal Savage and the Immortal Man along the way, and each time he’s resurrected he gains a new super power based on his cause of death.

“This is a story I’ve wanted to tell since I first started writing for DC,” said Ram V. “It’s lingered and stayed and got its hooks into my mind and my love and excitement for the character and story has only grown. Part of the joy of writing comics for me, is getting to reinvent, reimagine characters in a way that speaks to my own preoccupations and joys; with Resurrection Man: Quantum Karma, I hope readers will share in my excitement as Anand, Mike and Aditya and I tell a story of endless lifetimes, saving universes and falling in love, spanning the length of all existence.”

Slugfest | Three new Absolute titles debut in DC’s March solicitations

Plus: ‘Batman: H2sh” begins, ‘Sonic X Justice League’ races into shops and Harley Quinn gets a fart-themed special.

Slugfest is a roundup of cool announcements about projects coming to a shelf near you. This edition focuses on the new titles debuting in DC’s February solicitations, which you can find here. Hit the links for more information.

DC’s Absolute Universe has proven to be a big hit for them, and is one of the biggest success stories in the mainstream comic book world this year. DC even put out a press release claiming that Absolute Batman #1 was the best-selling comic of the year when you took into account all the subsequent printings, although they didn’t share any actual numbers so it’s hard to say whether it’s a bigger success than, say, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #1, which IDW said was the best-selling comic of the year, or Ultimate Spider-Man #1, which Bleeding Cool reported sold more copies across multiple printings.

But hey, no matter who had the higher numbers, it’s good to see all of these comics doing well enough to be in the conversation.

But getting back to the Absolute titles, the line will grow from three to six next March with the addition of Absolute Flash, Absolute Green Lantern and Absolute Martian Manhunter.

Jon Kent, Dreamer, Catman + more return in ‘Secret Six’ next year

Nicole Maines and Stephen Segovia will bring a new team together find a missing Amanda Waller.

DC’s found (but dysfunctional) family title is getting an All In reboot next year, as writer Nicole Maines and artist Stephen Segovia resurrect Secret Six. The six-issue miniseries will continue the story of Jon Kent, his boyfriend Jay Nakamura and their ally Dreamer, as they search for a missing Amanda Waller.

Fans of the original Secret Six will note that the trio will recruit some additional allies in their search, namely Catman, Deadshot and Black Alice.

“Getting to be part of DC All In and to tell a new story involving Jon Kent, Jay Nakamura, and Dreamer means the world to me,” Maines said. “They’re all at a crossroads right now, at the start of their potential villain origin stories, so having them team up with these Secret Six veterans, all former villains, feels like a mirror into their futures.”
