Cavan Scott + Paul Fry show VHS horror movies some love in ‘Night of the Slashers’

Magma Comix will publish the first issue in October.

Cavan Scott and Paul Fry will pay tribute to their horror movie-filled childhoods in Night of the Slashers, a miniseries coming from Magma Comix this fall.

The comic is a “love letter” to slasher movies, particular the kind you could rent from a video store and watch on videotape back in the day.

“As you can probably tell from the title, Night of the Slashers is a love letter to slasher movies, an obsession that began when I saw my first serial killer (Halloween 2 on a dodgy VHS at my friend’s 12th birthday party) and has now been passed onto my daughter,” Scott said. “It was only a matter of time before I came up with my own walking nightmare in the mold of Michael, Jason or Jason, but when I met artist Paul Fry and immediately bonded over horror movies, it soon became clear that one wasn’t enough. If we were going to write a slasher, we wanted an entire town of masked knife-wielding killers. This series has everything we love in slasher movies! Victims, you can’t wait to see sliced ‘n’ diced, larger-than-life monsters, gallons of blood and gruesome deaths galore. No one is safe in The Night of the Slashers. No one at all.”

Bunn + Schoening continue the story of cult leader Bingo Wilkin this spring

‘The Cult of That Wilkin Boy: Initiation’ will arrive in stores in April.

The classic Archie character Bingo Wilkin received a makeover as a rock star-turned-cult leader last year courtesy of Archie Horror, and this spring he’ll return for another round of fame, fortune and satanic worship in The Cult of That Wilkin Boy: Initiation.

The one-shot will reunite writer Cullen Bunn and artist Dan Schoening, who worked on the previous story of Bingo and his quest for fame. They’re joined by inker Ben Galvan, colorist Matt Herms and letterer Jack Morelli.

“I’m so excited to have the chance to write a new Bingo story,” Bunn said. “Initiation stands completely on its own as a fun, dark little horror tale. But, for those who have read The Cult of That Wilkin Boy, it continues the tale of deviltry and supernatural shenanigans in an exciting way. Returning to this world, I wanted to tell a tale that was a natural progression for Bingo but was also an amplification of the nightmarish horror that surrounds him.”

Put some horror into your holidays with Archie’s ‘Happy Horror Days’ one-shot

Frank Tieri, Joe Eisma, Joanne Starer and more put the ‘ho, ho, ho’ into horror this December.

The Archie Horror line returns with a vengeance this fall, starting this week with Chilling Adventures Presents . . . Weirder Mysteries and continuing on into October with several new titles. But if you think you’ll be safe after Oct. 31, think again — Archie has announced Happy Horror Days, a one-shot holiday special that will add a bit of fright to your holiday festivities.

The one-shot will feature three stories, including a new Jughead: The Hunger tale by Frank Tieri and Joe Eisma, a Sheila Wu story by Joanne Starer and Butch Mapa, and a Sugar Plum story by Joe Corallo and Patrick Piazzalunga.

“In ”Twas the Night Before the Hunger,’ X-Mas turns into an X-Massacre when Jughead finds himself up against none other than a pissed off Krampus one fine Christmas morn. It’s a nice little tale of ho-ho-horror where we may see more than just Christmas cookies and hamburgers getting eaten,” Tieri said about his and Eisma’s story, which returns to the world where Jughead is a werewolf.

Archie Comics announces two Sabrina projects

Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa will return to write ‘Chilling Adventures of Sabrina’ as well as a new series that spins out of the Netflix series.

Sabrina the Teenage Witch turns 60 this year, and to celebrate, Archie Comics has announced two projects written by Riverdale television series creator and showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa.

First up is the return of Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, the Archie Horror series that re-imagined the character and established her “satanic horror roots” that eventually made their way into the Netflix series. Chilling Adventures of Sabrina #9 picks right back up where the series paused in 2017 with the “Witch War” storyline. Aguirre-Sacasa will team up once again with artist Robert Hack and letterer Jack Morelli.

“Bringing Sabrina and her family and friends to life on the screen for Netflix was a dark dream come true, and I couldn’t be prouder of our four seasons, but it all started with a comic book series that was truly a labor of love for everyone who worked on it,” said Aguirre-Sacasa. “Reuniting with Robert Hack and the entire Archie Comics team and getting to pick up where we left off has been the best homecoming I could have ever asked for.”

‘Star Wars Adventures’ get creepy with ‘Tales from Vader’s Castle’

Fear leads to the dark side as a host of horror descends on the Star Wars universe.

IDW is heading to the even darker side with a new miniseries that combines Star Wars with “campfire ghost stories” — Star Wars Adventures: Tales from Vader’s Castle.

The five-part series will run for five weeks in October (of course!) and will feature stories by Cavan Scott, Derek Charm, Kelley Jones, Chris Fenoglio, Corin Howell, Robert Hack and Charles Paul Wilson III, and covers by Francesco Francavilla (again, I say, of course!)
