‘Supergirl: The World’ will feature stories by creators from 15 countries

The anthology graphic novel will arrive in June ahead of the Supergirl film.

Ahead of the theatrical debut of the Supergirl film, DC will release Supergirl: The World, an anthology graphic novel featuring stories by international creative teams.

Like the previous volumes featuring Batman, The Joker and Superman, Supergirl: The World will be published simultaneously by DC and their global publishing partners on the same day, June 2. The creative teams contributing stories include:

  • Spain: Aneke (writer, artist, cover)
  • Italy: Francesca Michielin (writer) and Federica Croci (artist, cover)

  • Turkey: Mahmud Asrar (writer, artist, cover)

My favorite comics of 2025

And some graphic novels, too.

Last year was a rough one when it came to comic book and graphic novel availability — not only did you have the collapse of Diamond Comics and the fallout that impacted publishers, retailers and inevitably readers, but you also had numerous book bans being enacted in schools and libraries. Add to that the ongoing turmoil here in the U.S. around tariffs, and you’ve got all sorts of headwinds beyond just the usual ones.

That being said, the comics themselves kind of rocked. Marvel and DC’s “rebooted” universes, the Absolute line and the Ultimate line, both delivered some creative highs for the company, while everyone from Skybound and their Energon line-up to Tiny Onion to Oni Press, brought their A games. New distributors have filled the void left by Diamond, and newer digital platforms like Neon Ichiban and Global Comix brought some competition to the dominant Comixology. Despite the distractions, there was a lot to be excited about.

So, all that being said, here is my own list of my favorite comics and graphic novels from 2025, presented in no particular order. Also I’m sure I’m forgetting something, so maybe I’ll add to it later.

Slugfest is a roundup of cool announcements about projects coming to a shelf near you. This edition focuses on DC’s January 2026 solicitations.

DC K.O. continues in January, with the previously announced tie-in books like Knightfight and Superman, but also in two new one-shots.

Let’s look first at DC K.O.: The Kids Are All Fight Special #1, which picks up on some of the plot lines introduced in Titans — specifically Granny Goodness showing up to give our heroes, including Jon Kent/Superman, a hard time as they try to evacuate Earth.

Corner box art will return just in time for the ‘Summer of Superman’

This summer’s Superman titles will feature an old staple with new art by Dan Mora.

Comic fans of a certain era will remember the days when a comic cover from Marvel or DC included not only a logo, but also a corner box that included the price, the Comics Code Authority symbol and artwork featuring the characters in the book. DC is bringing them back this summer as part of their “Summer of Superman” initiative, featuring stellar artwork from Dan Mora.

DC revealed five new Superman-themed corner boxes that will appear on Supergirl, Superman Unlimited, Krypto: The Last Dog of Krypton, Superman and Action Comics. The new corner box images “celebrate the classic look of beloved DC comic book covers, which traditionally featured at least one of the stars of the title in miniature on the upper left corner of the comic,” according to DC.

Sophie Campbell will write and draw a new Supergirl series

The Woman of Tomorrow will return to Midvale to confront an imposter Supergirl in May.

Supergirl will return to her own series later this year courtesy of Wet Moon creator and former Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles writer/artist Sophie Campbell.

The new series will debut in May, with Campbell both writing and drawing it. The “Summer of Superman” tie-in series will find Supergirl back in Midvale, the suburb of Metropolis where she used to live, dealing with a mysterious imposter Supergirl who is now protecting the town.

“I came up in the comics industry doing mostly graphic novels that I wrote and drew myself, so doing the same with Supergirl feels like I’m returning to my storytelling roots,” said Campbell. “My main touchstones to Kara Zor-El were the stories and the wild costumes from the 70’s, the 1984 Supergirl movie, and the CW show, which I was a huge fan of. In creating this version of Supergirl, I’ll be drawing on some of those influences as the series unfolds.”

If you read the Hellfire Gala 2023 special this week, then you know Ms. Marvel is playing a big role in what happens next to our favorite mutants. At San Diego, Marvel revealed more about Ms. Marvel: The New Mutant, the Fall of X miniseries featuring the recently resurrected Inhuman/mutant.

‘World of Krypton’ will feature Jor-El, catastrophe — and puppy Krypto

Robert Venditti and Michael Avon Oeming present stories about Krypton before the planet-wide cataclysm.

DC Comics has announced a new six-issue World of Krypton miniseries, focusing on Superman’s homeworld before the events that destroyed it and sent him rocketing into space.

Robert Venditti and Michael Avon Oeming will shine “new light on the famous characters of Krypton’s past—including Jor-El, General Dru-Zod and even a young Kara Zor-El,” aka Supergirl. They also promise an appearance by Krypto as a puppy.

DC announces ‘Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow’

Tom King, Bilquis Evely and Mat Lopes team up for a miniseries about Supergirl in space.

Today’s Infinite Frontier #0 from DC Comics not only announced a new IF miniseries for this summer, but also a new Supergirl series titled Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.

The eight-issue miniseries will be written by Tom King, with artwork by Bilquis Evely and Mat Lopes. The story will take Supergirl and Krypto into space.

‘Legion of Super-Heroes’ returns from Bendis + Sook

A two-issue series starring DC’s myriad future characters will kick off the new series.

DC Comics’ teen heroes from the future have been in an extended break for a few years now, but that’s all about to change. DC has announced that the Legion of Super-Heroes will return to their own title by Brian Michael Bendis and Ryan Sook following a two-issue series titled Legion Of Super-Heroes: Millennium.

This two-issue prelude will feature art by Jim Lee, Ryan Sook, Nicola Scott and others.

It focuses on “a most unlikely tour guide to the 31st Century, a familiar face to DC fans who finds herself suddenly immortal. As she learns to cope with her newfound immortality and the reason she was chosen for this quest, her 1,000-year odyssey will connect all of DC’s future timelines for the very first time.” This is interesting, as it sounds like Bendis is cleaning up or at least connecting all of DC’s future characters and timelines in a similar fashion to what he’s doing with all their spy agencies in Leviathan.
