Never let it be said that kids don’t still love chains. Image Comics and Todd McFarlane Productions sent out a release this week touting that the upcoming Spawn’s Universe #1 has shattered the record for “Image Comics’ top selling, first issue comic book of the 21st century by selling well over 200K units.”
The release goes on to mention that the comic is only the beginning for this year’s Spawn-pocalypse; Spawn’s Universe #1 will arrive in June, followed by King Spawn #1 in August, Gunslinger #1 in October and The Scorched #1 in December.

The former Image Comics series by Sebastian Girner and Galaad is now available in two volumes from TKO.
Scales & Scoundrels, the former Image Comics series by Sebastian Girner, Galaad and Jeff Powell, has found a new home at TKO Studios.
Scales & Scoundrels originally debuted in 2017, and Image published 12 issues before the series ended. It’s the story of Luvander, a treasure hunter, and her three companions, as they discover “a secret that will bring light to a world encroached upon by an ancient darkness.”
“At its heart, Scales & Scoundrels is the story of a wandering, of moving forward through whatever obstacles may face us and that seems very timely as society reemerges out of the events of the past 18 months,” Girner said. “It’s also about the constant of change, and how change is inevitable, even for an immortal dragon. Life is change and all things, good and bad, beautiful, and sad, stem from our struggle to accept this. We wanted to explore a rich, and diverse fantasy setting, but have the characters within that world struggle with similar emotions and issues just as our readers might.”

The editor-in-chief of TKO Studios discusses their approach to making comics, their second year of publishing and the ‘relentless hopelessness’ of his own writing.
Sebastian Girner is the editor-in-chief of TKO Studios, where he’s overseen the publisher’s launch, its approach to publishing, and its diverse lineup of talents and approaches that we’ve seen over the past few years.
Previously Girner worked at Marvel Comics and has edited various creator-owned comics. He’s also written comics, including two projects that came out this year. The Devil’s Red Bride is a miniseries coming out from Vault Comics, and The Father Of All Things is one of the books in TKO’s inaugural line of TKO Shorts.
We spoke recently about his eventful year, about the tone that unites these two different projects, and how he uses the supernatural.
