The National Cartoonists Society announces the divisional nominees for the 71st Annual NCS Reuben Awards.

The National Cartoonists Society has announced the 2016 NCS Divisional nominees for the 71st Annual NCS Reuben Awards, which annually recognize creators of comic strips, animation, illustrations, comic books and more. The winners will be announced May 27, and the nominees for their biggest award, the Reuben itself, should be coming later this month.

Janson and Raimondi conjure up ‘Sacred Creatures’ in July

‘This One Summer,’ ‘Drama’ top list of most banned books of 2016

‘Big Hard Sex Criminals’ also among the most challenged books, according to the American Library Association.

Mariko and Jillian Tamaki’s This One Summer and Raina Telgemeier’s Drama topped the list of 2016’s most challenged books, according to the American Library Association. Matt Fraction and Chip Zdarsky’s Big Hard Sex Criminals also landed in the top 10 as the seventh most challenged book of 2016.

‘The Woods’ wins a 2017 GLAAD Media Award

The BOOM! Studios title by James Tynion IV, Michael Dialynas, Josan Gonzalez and Ed Dukeshire comes out on top in a very competitive category.

The Woods has been named “Outstanding Comic Book” by The Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation, or GLAAD, in their 2017 Media Awards.

WildStorm celebrates 25 years with hardcover collection

Image Comics’ 25th anniversary also marks the 25th one for the studios that formed around the seven creators who formed the publisher — including Jim Lee’s WildStorm. To celebrate this milestone, DC Comics will publish WildStorm: A Celebration of 25 Years, which is due out in August.

Peter Milligan and Tess Fowler team on first Black Crown title

‘Kid Lobotomy,’ the first comic from Shelly Bond’s new imprint at IDW, debuts in October.

At WonderCon on Friday, IDW announced the first title for Shelly Bond’s new Black Crown imprint — Kid Lobotomy by Peter Milligan and Tess Fowler.

As announced earlier this month, Black Crown is a new line of connected, creator-owned comics, spearheaded by the former Vertigo editor and published by IDW. “Black Crown” refers not only to the creator-owned imprint, but also a pub that anchors a mysterious street that connects each comic.
