Sharing is caring: ‘Care Bears’ coming from IDW this July

New series by Agnes Garbowska, Matthew Erman and Nadia Shammas debuts in July.

IDW has picked up another kid-friendly comic license. At WonderCon this weekend, they announced a new Care Bears series by Agnes Garbowska, Matthew Erman and Nadia Shammas, set to debut in July.

“I am extremely excited to be working on Care Bears since it was such a huge part of my childhood and impacted me greatly. I hope the series brings the same love and joy to new fans as it did for me,” Garbowska said in the press release.

The Care Bears debuted on greeting cards back in 1981, and eventually found their way to TV and became a popular line of plush toys. This isn’t the first time the Care Bears have appeared in comics, as Marvel’s Star line published an adaptation back in the 1980s. I believe the property is on its third or fourth life right now, following a February debut of a new cartoon on Boomerang.

Care Bears has been a touchstone for generations. I had their toys and stuffed animals when I was a kid, and my daughter has them now,” said John Barber, Editor-in-Chief of IDW Publishing. “They’re characters parents and kids get to share — and just like the Care Bears:Unlock the Magic animated series, our comic brings them into modern times while staying true to the characters we love!”
