2019 Doug Wright Awards winners announced

Xiaoxiao Li, Arianne Dénommé and Hartley Lin win at the annual awards program for Canadian comics.

Xiaoxiao Li, Arianne Dénommé and Hartley Lin each took home an award from the Doug Wright Awards ceremony held at the Toronto Comic Arts Festival this weekend.

The Doug Wright Awards honor “the best work and most promising talent in Canadian comics.” Check out the winners below:

Young Frances by Hartley Lin took home the 2019 Doug Wright Best Book Award. Published by AdHouse, Young Frances collects issues of the critically acclaimed Pope Hats series.

Arianne Dénommé won the 2019 Doug Wright Spotlight Award (a.k.a. The Nipper), for her book 100 Days in Uranium City, which was published by Conundrum Press.

And the Pigskin Peters Award, honoring the most experiment, unconventional, or avant-garde comic, went to Retomber by Xiaoxiao Li.

In addition, Fiona Smyth and Alootook Ipellie were inducted into the Giants of the North Hall of Fame for Canadian cartoonists. You can read more about both of them here.
