Cates + Stegman plan to launch three comics on Substack

The two ‘King in Black’ creators launch Kids Love Chains Press on the email platform.

Donny Cates and Ryan Stegman are the latest creators to sign on for the Substack revolution, following James Tynion IV, Skottie Young, Chip Zdarsky, Molly Ostertag and others last week.

This morning the duo behind Venom and King in Black launched Kids Love Chains Press on the email newsletter platform and announced three comics they’ll share through Substack’s premium service. Cates and Stegman will work on the first title, Vanish, while Cates will write the other two with different artists attached.

Here’s the lowdown:

First up is Vanish by Donny Cates and Ryan Stegman:

“Since I was young, I wanted to create something new and have people read it,” Stegman said. “And here we are! A few months back Donny and I sat in my studio and plotted this thing out and it freaking rules. It’s about magic and superheroes and… Well, how about I just show you some art? Here you go!”

Next, Flood, by Cates, Megan Hutchison-Cates, Dee Cuniffe, and John J. Hill:

Cates is working with his wife on this six-issue miniseries. “And yes, because the artist on this book tends to live with me, expect Megan to be dropping by our live feeds and zoom chats and whatnot to talk all things Flood!” he said.

And finally, Cates will return to The One You Feed, which initially launched on Panel Syndicate last year. It’s a six-issue mini-series from Cates, Dylan Burnett and John J. Hill:

It looks like The One You Feed has been removed from the Panel Syndicate website, and based on the artwork this appears to be the same content that appeared there (vs. a sequel). I’m not sure how far they got with it on Panel Syndicate.

In any event, you can get all three in your email box by becoming a premium subscriber for $8 a month. Like other creators, KLC Press is also offering a $300 level that includes print copies with exclusive variant covers of some of the books. Check out their first newsletter to learn more.
