A new Moon Knight will rise after Marc Spector’s death

‘Vengeance of the Moon Knight’ by Jed MacKay and Alessandro Cappuccio will see another character put on the hood.

If you’ve been a mainstream superhero comic fan for any amount of time, you’ve probably noticed certain patterns emerge. For instance, when a major superhero dies, it isn’t long before that void is filled.

Following the announcement that they plan to kill Moon Knight later this year, Marvel has announced Vengeance of the Moon Knight by Jed MacKay and Alessandro Cappuccio, which will kick off in the new year. It’ll follow Moon Knight #30, which will end the current series.

(In the words of my kid, “Can Moon Knight even die?” I guess we’ll find out.

Moon Knight may be dying, but Vengeance of the Moon Knight rises, clawing itself from the grave!” MacKay told Marvel.com. “We’re thrilled to bring the next chapter of this saga to uneasy life as the Midnight Mission reels from a recent loss… and yet, Moon Knight still stalks the night time streets? Despite the apocalyptic events of Moon Knight #28-30, we have plenty left to tell in the story of the Moon Knight, and I’m excited for readers to join us!”

And here’s the description of the new series from Marvel:

Clad in the black of mourning, the Midnight Mission remains! But who is left to keep the faith? And how have they been changed by the Black Spectre’s master stroke? The next chapter of MOON KNIGHT starts here as the congregants of the Midnight Mission pick up the pieces and carry on the mission… and find themselves faced with a mysterious new enemy in eerily familiar vestments.

And here’s a look at Cappuccio’s designs for the new Moon Knight:

“We needed a new black suit in this series, so here we are,” Cappuccio said. “For the design, I took inspiration from ancient Egyptian banded armor while trying to stay true to the mood of the character. I replaced the classic batons with similar weapons that are reminiscent of the flowers of the Nile as depicted in the hieroglyphics. He is a new Moon Knight in both appearance and spirit and needed a change of look to suit the situation as you will see!”

In terms of who is under the new mask, there are several candidates to choose from in the current series, with Hunter’s Moon, the other Fist of Khonshu, being at the top of the list.

Look for the first issue of Vengeance of the Moon Knight on Jan. 3.
