Welcome to Can’t Wait for Wednesday, your guide to what comics are arriving in comic book stores, bookstores and on digital.
I’ve pulled out some of the highlights for this week below, but for the complete list of everything you might find at your local comic shop and on digital this week, you’ll want to check out one or more of the following:
- Penguin Random House (Marvel + IDW + Dark Horse + more)
- Lunar Distribution (DC + Image + more)
- Diamond’s PreviewsWorld (Dynamite + more)
- ComicList (Pretty much all of the above)
- Amazon/Kindle new releases (digital comics)
As a reminder, things can change and what you find on the above lists may differ from what’s actually arriving in your local shop. With Diamond going through bankruptcy proceedings, distribution has become even more questionable, with deliveries and arrival dates changing. So check with your retailer to see what’s arriving at their shop this week.

Mothra, Queen of the Monsters #1 (IDW, $4.99): Fresh off an epic run on Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Sophie Campbell turns her attention to the giant kaiju known as Mothra in this new five-issue series. The story begins with Mothra’s defeat by a kaiju known as Antra, and without their defender, Earth’s humans fall into a state of desolation. But when two twins are reunited, Mothra just might be reborn.

Doctor Strange of Asgard #1 (Marvel, $4.99): If you’ve been wondering what Doctor Strange’s “future endeavors” might include, wonder no more — the former sorcerer supreme of Earth is headed to Asgard to see if they have any openings for a sorcerer supreme of their own. Writer Derek Landy and artist Carlos Magno show us what the good doctor is up to while Doctor Doom continues his reign on Earth during One World Under Doom.

Secret Six #1 (DC, $3.99): DC’s dysfunctional found-family title gets an All In reboot, as writer Nicole Maines and artist Stephen Segovia bring together some characters they’re familiar with of late — including Dreamer and Jonathan Kent — with Secret Six mainstays Deadshot, Catman and Black Alice. They’ve all teamed up to find a missing Amanda Waller.

Uncanny X-Men #11 (Marvel, $4.99): Marvel’s mutants cross over in this new story, X-Manhunt, which finds Professor X on the run after escaping from Graymalkin Prison. This first issue is by Gail Simone and Javier Garrón, and the story will run through most of the X-titles before wrapping up in an “omega” issue on March 26.

Usagi Yojimbo: Ten Thousand Plums #1 (Dark Horse, $4.99): Stan Sakai’s long-eared samurai is back in a new miniseries featuring two different stories — “Ten Thousand Plums” and “Tabo.” That second story, in particular, has significant meaning for Sakai, as it pays tribute to his deceased brother.

Web of Spider-Verse: New Blood #1 (Marvel, $4.99): The Spiderverse and the Venomverse are headed for a big collision this year, in May’s Spider-Verse vs. Venomverse. But before that arrives, this week brings Web Of Spider-Verse: New Blood, a one-shot anthology with tales of various multiversal versions of Spider-Man, with the first of a two-part story by Mat Groom and Luciano Vecchio that sets up the bigger clash.

Teen Titans Go! #1 (DC, $2.99): After the Teen Titans Go! comic is cancelled, Robin and the gang remake themselves as manga characters, giant robots and more — before a final confrontation with DC. This very meta issue is by Sholly Fisch and Dario Brizuela.

Monkey Meat: The Summer Batch #1 (Image Comics, $3.99): Juni Ba is back with another dose of Monkey Meat, the one-creator anthology featuring stories set on a hellish African fantasy island run by a corporation selling cans of monkey meat. This second round runs for five issues, each of which will include two stories.

The Herculoids #1 (Dynamite, $4.99): The Alex Toth-created Herculoids ran as an animated series back in the 1960s and 1980s, and now they’re back as a comic series. Tom Sniegoski and Craig Rousseau will tell new stories about Zandor, Tara, their son Dorno and all their alien allies as they defend the planet Amzot against evil.

What If? Mickey and Friends Became the Avengers? (Marvel, $4.99): Steve Behling and Alessandro Pastrovicchio are back with another Disney-fied take on a Marvel property, this time reimagining Mickey and the gang as Iron Man, Thor and the rest of the Avengers.

Blade Forger #1 (Mad Cave, $4.99): Inaki Miranda and Roy Miranda team up again for the story of a world where the mining of an energy source called Corum is controlled by a neutral government run by a mystical swordsman called a Blade Forger — a position that anyone can challenge for as part of The Tournament of the Five Rings.

Star Wars: Jedi Knights #1 (Marvel, $4.99): In this new series, writer Marc Guggenheim and artist Madibek Musabekov will tell stories of the Jedi Order set right before the events of the prequels — so expect to see all your favorite Jedi like Mace Windu, Qui-Gon Jinn, Plo Koon, Yoda and more doing Jedi things. Each issue will spotlight a different Jedi duo on a different mission throughout the galaxy, but an overarching threat binds them together.

Katabasis #1 (Blackbox Comics, $9.99): Damien Becton and Rodrigo Rocha tell the story of Juniper, a mercenary who falls into a coma on Earth and becomes tasked with using her skills to save a soul from the Underworld.

The Collected Will Eisner’s John Law (Titan, $24.99): Timed to arrive during Will Eisner Week, Titan releases a collection of Eisner’s John Law, the comic he created with Gary Chaloner in 2004. This volume includes a forward by Denis Kitchen and a story that was never published.
