Toxic Avenger faces his evil twin in new series this October

Matt Bors and Felipe Sobreiro bring the Noxious Offender to comics in a five-part event.

The Toxic Avenger’s nemesis will soon pollute the pages of his comics, in addition to the movie screen. AHOY Comics and Troma Entertainment have announced The Toxic Avenger vs. The Noxious Offender, a five-issue series by writer Matt Bors and artist Felipe Sobreiro launching this October.

The series marks the first comic book appearance of the Noxious Offender, Toxie’s evil duplicate, who was introduced in the film Citizen Toxie: The Toxic Avenger IV. In the story, the Offender’s arrival coincides with the reappearance of Toxie’s estranged father, and Toxie must confront his dark counterpart’s takeover of Tromaville while preparing to become a father himself as girlfriend’s pregnancy progresses.

“We have thrown mutant bullies, aliens, and cyborg Nazis at Toxie—and now he will face his biggest threat in a deranged, murderous doppelganger who knows his mind, wants to take over his life, and uncork every dark impulse in Tromaville,” Bors said. “As Noxie takes over Tromaville, he seems to give people permission to engage in their darker impulses, violence, and conspiracism. Parenting, mutant pregnancy, and themes of social cohesion are the name of the game. Toxie vs. Noxie will be in turns gross, funny, and brutal—with an unsettling undercurrent that asks how capable each of us might be of mind-bending violence if the circumstances were just bad enough.”

Here’s a preview:

AHOY Comics Editor-in-Chief Tom Peyer said that Noxie represents a twisted mirror of Toxie himself, shaped by everything terrible in the world, like hate, automatic weapons and cell phones. “Noxie is a product of bad parenting, automatic weapons and screen time; he’s Toxie’s twisted brain matter, raised on hate and gunning for anyone who sees a future worth having. His warpath of self-destruction extends through the multiverse… and the sickest part might be that the people of Tromaville start to love it,” Peyer said

Bors drew the cover for the first issue, while Greg Scott drew a variant:
