Forever Home #1 (Oni Press, $8.99): Wriet and cover artist Christian Ward teams with interior artist Sami Kivelä to launch this science fiction thriller about a scientist, Henry D’mour, who builds “the Forever Home” — an ark of sorts to protect his family against the apocalypse. This sealed environment moves at a fraction of the time that the real world does, giving his family decades to plan humanity’s future while only minutes pass inside. Then an accident breaks the barrier, and whatever’s outside decides it wants in. Check out my interview with Ward about the high-concept title.
Marvel Gold ’76 #1 (Marvel, $4.99): Marvel has been very anniversary-focused in recent years, with everyone from Spider-Woman to Amadeus Cho getting anniversary specials. In this one, Marvel’s celebrating four different characters who debuted 50 years ago in 1976, as Stephanie Phillips and Madibek Musabekov bring together Bullseye, Nova, Jack of Hearts and Star-Lord. The one-shot finds Thanos hiring Bullseye to eliminate a target of cosmic importance, with the other three converging to stop him.
Six of Us #1 (Dark Horse, $4.99): So no one told you life was gonna end this way … (clap clap clap clap). Tom King, Gabriel Hernández Walta and Jordie Bellaire, the Eisner Award-winning team behind The Vision, reunite for a seven-issue Hollywood noir series. When a beloved cast member of a hit ensemble sitcom dies under mysterious circumstances, the surviving five cast members must confront the secrets, betrayals and desires that have been lurking beneath the glittering facade for years.
Star Trek: 60th Anniversary Special (IDW, $8.99): Star Trek turns 60 on Sept. 8, 2026 — oh hey, that’s tomorrow! IDW marks the anniversary with an oversized anthology featuring comics by Brian Michael Bendis, Christopher Cantwell, David Walker, Ryan North, Mike McMahan, Michael Allred, Laura Allred and more, covering the original series, Lower Decks, The Animated Series, Picard, Starfleet Academy, and a preview of the new flagship title launching later this year.
Batman: Bad Seeds — Gotham Central #1 (DC, $4.99): The Bad Seed crossover event running through the Batman titles continues with this miniseries by Christopher Cantwell and Jacob Phillips. The duo zooms in on the street level shenanigans in Gotham, as Vandal Savage diverts GCPD resources to his war against the Bat-Family and Poison Ivy’s botanical apocalypse continues tro consume Gotham. This leaves Officers Gordon and Espinoza basically on their own trying to handle a killer, a stalker, subway chaos and an Anarky heist.
The Karman Blade #1 (Image, $3.99): The Eisner Award-winning team behind Little Bird and Precious Metal return with a dark fantasy epic. A young man on the outskirts of a dying world is chosen by a star-forged blade to slay the despotic deity Kalu and free the water he hoards from his people. Before the journey can begin, the boy must face his own demons and answer the blade’s call. Writer Darcy Van Poelgeest and artist Ian Bertram have been on a hot streak, which no doubt will continue here.
ThunderCats: Cheetara #1 (Dynamite, $4.99): Saladin Ahmed and Andrea Arcari helm this new Cheetara spotlight series, the first of two new takes on the ThunderCats in the wake of the recent ThunderCats/SilverHawks crossover.
Vampire Survivors #1 (Titan, $4.99): The stakes are high as writer David Hazan and artist Jimmy Kucaj adapt the massively popular indie video game into comics. When the Belpaese siblings are tasked with clearing out a library full of monsters, Imelda stumbles upon an ancient evil called the Trickster that only she can perceive.
Marvel Mangaverse: Iron Knight #1 (Marvel, $4.99): Writer Cody Ziglar and artist Kei Zama expand the Mangaverse with another new chapter, as part of the Marvel Mangaverse anniversary celebration. In New Chicago, besieged by demonic yokai and trapped under a magical dome, Riri Williams has built a mana-powered mech suit and operates as Iron Heart. When the chance to avenge a friend’s death arises, she’s pulled into a dangerous quest alongside the legendary sorcerer Moon Knight.
Spawn 77 #1 (Image, $6.99): Todd McFarlane teams with artist Mark Spears to revisit the first version of Spawn McFarlane created back to 1977. Nearly 50 years later, McFarlane and Spears are creating a completely new and distinct take on the character that exists alongside but apart from the main Spawn Universe.
Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Coastal Chaos #1 (IDW, $4.99): Writer Andrew Joustra and artist Louie Joyce take the Ninja Turtles to the Jersey Shore for a vacation that goes sideways fast, as Mikey nearly gets attacked by something with big teeth.
Star Trek: Deviations — Evermore (IDW, $4.99): Star Trek novelist Claudia Gray and artist Andy Price deliver a spooky one-shot perfectly timed to the 60th anniversary of Star Trek. Aboard the Enterprise, Dr. M’Benga sees his beloved daughter Rukiya get whisked away by the fantasies she loves most, as crew members transform into characters from the world of Edgar Allan Poe.
Star Wars: The Book of Boba Fett #1 (Marvel, $5.99): Writer Rodney Barnes and artist Will Sliney adapt the Disney+ series for comics, following Boba Fett as he takes over Jabba’s syndicate and tries to hold Tatooine together after Jabba’s fall.
The Folk of Dooney Hollow #1 (Ignition Press, $4.99): Jeremy Haun and Alex Lins dive into Ozark folk horror in this new series. Deep in the mountains lies the village of Dooney Hollow, hidden from modern society for over a century, where dark forces lurk in the woods outside the town gate. Graduate student Kerri arrives looking to research local legends and gets far closer than she bargained for.
Fixation #1 (IDW, $4.99): Superfan Taylor Van Owens wins a contest to stay in the legendary Mallard house for the 10th anniversary reunion of the hit vampire franchise Blood Mountain, only to find that a young woman has been found dead inside. And the killer who isn’t finished in this new IDW Crime title by Amy Chase and Savanna Mayer.
Challenges of Doom: Spider-Man #1 (Marvel, $4.99): The second one-shot in the Challenges of Doom series tells the story of an encounter between a young Peter Parker and Doctor Doom, who has tracked the web-slinger to Queens with a very specific role in mind for his next world-dominating scheme. Peter, of course, doesn’t really go in for that kind of thing. Writer Al Ewing and artist David Messina deliver this untold story in both characters’ history.
Major Taylor: The World’s Fastest Man (Drawn & Quarterly, $30): Writer, artist and cyclist Frederick Noland created this monumental 372-page graphic biography of Marshall Walter “Major” Taylor, America’s first Black world champion athlete and one of the greatest cyclists of the early 20th century. Born in Indianapolis in 1878, Taylor set world records as a teenager and won his first championship by 20, while facing racist collusion from fellow competitors and segregationist policies.
Forevr (Top Shelf, $19.99): Brian “Box” Brown writes and draws this eerily plausible near-future graphic novel about death and AI. Brenda’s dying mother uploads her consciousness to the Forevr app, allowing the family to chat with her on their screens for a monthly fee. But on a camping trip, tensions rise between the grief that’s been deferred by technology and the need to actually process loss, building toward an explosive reckoning.
Doctor Strange: Endless Nightmare (Abrams/Marvel Arts, $25.99): The team behind the bestselling Dune graphic novel trilogy reunite for the latest Marvel Arts original graphic novel. A mysterious patient raving that life is “nothing but the dream of a sleeping god” triggers worldwide insomnia, and Doctor Strange must descend into the Nightmare Realm to end it. This Little Nemo in Slumberland-gone-wrong graphic novel is by writer Kevin J. Anderson and artists Raúl Allén and Patricia Martín, and is the latest addition to the Alex Ross-curated Marvel Arts line.
Miss Greene’s Secret (Abrams, $25.99): Writer Nicolas Antona and artist Nina Jacqmin bring to life one of the story of Belle Greener, who reinvented herself as Belle da Costa Greene by concealing her African heritage and passing as a white woman throughout her career as librarian for J.P. Morgan’s personal library.
Offside (Scholastic, $14.99): Writer Christina Diaz Gonzalez and artist Mari Costa created this bilingual middle-grade graphic novel about a soccer team that goes co-ed for the first time. The clash between new member Nicky and resistant team captain Al threatens to tear everything apart until someone starts asking deeper questions about why Nicky joined in the first place.
