Create your own brackets for DC’s upcoming ‘DC K.O.’ crossover

Superman, Wonder Woman, Lobo or … Plastic Man? Make your picks on who will win the big tournament to become King Omega.

It may not be March, but if you like creating your own tournament brackets, then DC has you covered — they’ve launched a website that’ll let you pick the winners and losers in their upcoming “fight club” crossover comic DC K.O.

Thus far DC has told us that DC K.O. will involve heroes and villains battling it out, tournament style, for the right to become “King Omega” and gain enough power to take on a supped up Darkseid. They’ve revealed the 32 characters participating, and they showed us several of the issues coming in December where the big battles will go down. But until now they’ve been coy about who will fight who, so this new site gives us the first look at all the match-ups.

And now we know what those plans include — two new crossover books featuring Superman and Spider-Man, as well as reprints, or “fascimile editions,” of Superman vs. The Amazing Spider-Man #1 and Marvel Treasury Edition #28.

It’s Wednesday, and you know what that means …

AEW and DC Comics — two Wednesday staples — are teaming for a comic series and cross-promotion.

Fans of All Elite Wrestling know the familiar catchphrase that the masked Excalibur says every Wednesday night to kick off AEW’s Dynamite. And comic fans, of course, know that Wednesday means “new comics.” But now the two are coming together, again, as AEW has announced a crossover miniseries that will see AEW’s wrestlers meet the Justice League in 2026.

Writer Steve Orlando will team with artist Travis Mercer on the project, which will feature covers by Lucas Meyer.

DC and AEW plan to have a “special preview edition” of the comic at the New York Comic Con later this month, where AEW owners Tony Khan and wrestlers like Jon Moxley, Swerve Strickland, Orange Cassidy and Willow Nightingale, will join comic creators Steve Orlando and Travis Mercer on a panel.

Stan Lee and John Romita’s ‘The Amazing Spider-Man’ newspaper strips return from Clover Press

The campaign is now live on Kickstarter.

Clover Press and The Library of American Comics are teaming up to bring The Amazing Spider-Man Classic Newspaper Comics back into print—this time in an affordable softcover format—and they’re turning to Kickstarter to make it happen.

“The Library of American Comics remastered and collected the strip in a series of hardcover collections—but so many of them are out of print, making the collection highly sought after and almost impossible for your average comics lover to get their hands on,” said Clover Publisher Hank Kanalz. ”Now, Clover Press and The Library of American Comics are bringing the collections back to print in an affordable softcover format! We’re collecting the strip strictly by year, reprinting each installment from Jan. 1 to Dec. 31. We can’t wait to help get these iconic comic strips into the hands of Spidey lovers everywhere!”

The campaign’s first offering will collect the strip from 1977–1980 across four softcover volumes, each measuring 11″ x 8.5″ in a horizontal format, housed in a protective slipcase designed for easy shelving. Backers can pick up all four volumes as a bundle, along with campaign-exclusive extras including a puzzle, stickers, lithographs and more. And today we have your first look at the sticker sheets:

Abrams ComicArts line expands with Eric Powell’s ‘Thor: Behemoth of the Black Moon’

“I’m doing exactly what I want—a big cosmic adventure with giant Kirby style monsters …”

The Goon creator Eric Powell will prove himself worthy in a new graphic novel coming next May from Marvel and Abrams ComicArts.

Thor: Behemoth of the Black Moon will be published through Abrams’ Marvel Arts line, an initiative curated by Alex Ross and edited by Charles Kochman, editor-in-chief of Abrams ComicArts. It’ll be a cosmic adventure featuring giant monsters and a burden left to Thor by his dad, Odin.

“Growing up a Marvel kid as I did, getting free rein to tell a story with a premier character like Thor is a dream come true,” Powell said. “I didn’t want to waste this opportunity, so I’m doing exactly what I want—a big cosmic adventure with giant Kirby style monsters. Yeah, this book is absolutely my love letter to Jack Kirby and Walt Simons on, and I think their influences will be clear. Did I mention cosmic monsters? Cosmic . . . MONSTERS. The kid in me is giddy. I’m so appreciative of Alex Ross, Marvel, and Abrams ComicArts for offering me this project and allowing me to do my thing in this universe.”

Lone Star, Full Moon: Zack Quaintance + Anna Readman bring ‘Macabre Valley’ to Kickstarter

The campaign for the Texas werewolf grindhouse miniseries ends Oct. 15.

Zack Quaintance and Anna Readman, who worked together on last year’s Death of Comics Bookcase anthology, have teamed up for Macabre Valley, a “Texan werewolf grindhouse comic” that draws from Quaintance’s days as a reporter on the Texas.Mexico border.

“Right after college, I spent five years as a newspaper reporter in South Texas, a wild place filled with news and legends,” said Quaintance. “I was in way over my head. It didn’t go well, and it’s always felt like a bit of a horror story to me—so now we’re taking my real life experiences and crafting a fantastical, monster-filled version of events.”

The result is Macabre Valley, which Quaintance is currently funding on Kickstarter. The campaign is for the first issue of four, and it actually hit its goal already, so all you need to do is pledge and wait for your copy to arrive before Halloween.

“By doing the comic through Kickstarter, we’ll be able to do the book our own way, with all the twists, gore, and gritty terror this story demands. It’s going to get bloody, y’all,” he said.

Kyle Starks rings the bell for ‘Wrestle Heist’

The five-issue miniseries arrives in December from Image Comics.

Kyle Starks of Sexcastle, The Six Sidekicks of Trigger Keaton and Peacemaker Tries Hard fame, will get in the ring with colorist Vladimir Popov on Wrestle Heist, a five-issue miniseries coming from Image Comics in December.

It’s the story of a washed-up wrestler who nearly meets his end thanks to a crooked promoter. So he tags in a crew of fellow wrestlers to rob the promoter blind during the biggest show of the year. Or, for those fluent in wrestling (or even the related “sports entertainment” dialect): imagine if, after the Montreal Screwjob, Bret Hart reformed the Hart Foundation to steal the WrestleMania gate from Vince McMahon. Or for those who don’t speak wrestling: think Ocean’s 11, but everyone’s in tights.

“I am so excited to return to Image Comics—the place where all my Eisner nominations happened—with my new book Wrestle Heist which will be great for fans of wrestling, fans of heists or fans of having a great time while reading a comic!” said Starks. “I believe comics should be fun and I promise this one is a romp you don’t want to miss!”

Marc Silvestri returns to ‘The Darkness’ in December

‘This isn’t just a nostalgia trip—it’s a reinvention.’

Top Cow founder Marc Silvestri will embrace The Darkness once again in December, as he returns to the series he co-created in 1996, promising “a thrilling expansion of The Darkness mythology with fresh twists to surprise even its most devoted fans.”

Ed Benes will draw the first issue, with inks from Matt “Batt!” Banning, Sal Regla and John Livesay; colors by Arif Prianto; and letters by Troy Peteri. Raymond Gay will take over interior art with issue #2.

“The Darkness has always been one of my favorite characters, and I’ve wanted to come back to it for a long time,” said Silvestri. “Fans have been asking for years when Jackie would return, and now we get to deliver something truly special. This is going to feel familiar, but it’s going to take you places you’ve never been before.”
