Josh Gad comes to comics for ‘The Writer’

The actor will team with co-writers Ben and Max Berkowitz and artist Ariel Olivetti on the miniseries, which launches at Dark Horse this summer.

Actor Josh Gad (Wolf Like Me, Frozen) will team with producers Ben and Max Berkowitz and artist Ariel Olivetti for The Writer, a four-issue miniseries that begins this summer.

The Writer “combines the fantastical elements of cultural folklore with the real-life challenges of the creative process, in a story that is unique, familiar and wholly original.” Letterer Frank Cvetkovic rounds out the creative team.

“Teaming up with the brilliant Berkowitz brothers on ‘The Writer‘ has been an absolute blast and an education” Gad said. “Here we are, diving headfirst into a universe where cultural folklore meets the high-octane adventures that defined our youth. It’s like all those Saturdays spent watching action flicks and dreaming up stories are finally paying off. What makes this project truly special, though, is the chance to celebrate personal stories. We’re talking about tales that not only entertain but resonate on a deeper level, reflecting a rich heritage and the kind of heroism that doesn’t always wear a cape. The Writer isn’t just a comic; it’s a milestone for nerds like us, proving heroes come in all shapes, sizes and backgrounds.”

Bechko + Luckert will launch ‘The Space Between’ at BOOM! this fall

The story will follow the crew of a giant spaceship across multiple generations.

The Expanse writer and fossil preparator Corinna Bechko will team with Ghostlore artist Danny Luckert for a new miniseries titled The Space Between from BOOM! Studios.

Set on a spaceship called the Dodona, the series will span across generations as the starbound ark continues across the years to its destination, with each issue featuring new protagonists.

“I feel incredibly fortunate to be telling this story of romance and revolution with Danny,” said Bechko. “Life might be what happens while you’re making other plans, but what if those plans were made long before you were even born? I can’t wait for folks to enter The Space Between and find out!”

BOOM! announces ‘Firefly: The Fall Guys’

Sam Humphries, Jordi Perez and Francesco Segala pit the Serenity crew against ‘assassins, jobs gone wrong, and organized crime.’

The crew of the Serenity will fly once again this fall in a new miniseries by Sam Humphries, Jordi Perez and Francesco Segala.

Firefly: The Fall Guys will find Mal and the crew dealing with organized crime and local politics (is that redundant?) as they attempt to make some bank to keep the Serenity in the sky.

“So thrilled to be welcomed into the Firefly ‘verse. I love Westerns, so bringing the best bandits in the galaxy back to their buckaroo roots with a fantastic artist like Jordi has been a dream,” said Humphries. “Don’t worry, there’s still a giant gorram spaceship in the first issue. Yee haw!”

‘Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League’ gets a comic book prequel

John Layman and Jesús Hervás bring to life ‘Suicide Squad: Kill Arkham Asylum.’

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is the upcoming video game that, like the title suggests lets you play as the Suicide Squad as you take on a mind-controlled Justice League.

The chaos begins on May 26 and will soon be followed by Suicide Squad: Kill Arkham Asylum, a prequel comic book set in the game’s continuity. It’s by John Layman (Chew) and Jesús Hervás (Are You Afraid of Darkseid?, Cyberpunk 2077), and will feature Harley Quinn, Deadshot, Captain Boomerang, King Shark and of course Amanda Waller, who just took control of Arkham Asylum as part of her latest recruitment drive.

Dc will offer codes for a free in-game cosmetic item in print copies as well as to Annual and Ultra paying subscribers of their DC Universe Infinite service. But purchasers of digital copies get nothing, which kind of sucks given that they charge just as much for digital comics as they do for print.
