Marvel changes an upcoming Captain America story to reintroduce SHIELD

Captain America will have different companions now for his trip to Latveria.

Marvel has announced that SHIELD, led by Nick Fury Jr., will return in Captain America #6, seemingly replacing the team of international superheroes that was set to debut in that issue.

The post-One World Under Doom story would have introduced a group of super soldiers sent to assist Captain America on a mission to Latveria, including Captain Kingdom, Captain France, The Star and a new Red Widow. But this week Marvel announced that issue will now feature a new iteration of SHIELD that will include Nick Fury Jr., Red Widow and several new SHIELD agents — all in the lead-up to Armageddon.

They even kept the same cover design by artist Valerio Schiti, replacing the “Captains” with SHIELD:

Chip Zdarsky will unleash ‘Armageddon’ on the Marvel Universe in 2026

A new teaser hints at Marvel’s plans for Avengers.

The end is coming, a new Marvel teaser says, and they’re giving you seven months to prepare.

The publisher has revealed Armageddon (not to be confused with DC’s 2001 event of the same name), an Avengers-centered event spearheaded by Chip Zdarsky. According to Marvel.com, it’ll change “the face of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes in a way not seen since Avengers: Disassembled.”

Here’s a look at the teaser, designed by Zdarsky:

Doom’s influence in the Marvel Universe will continue after ‘One World Under Doom’ ends

‘The Will of Doom’ one-shot by Chip Zdarsky and CAFU in December ‘sets the stage for the next era of the Marvel Universe.’

Things aren’t looking so great for Doctor Doom, based on the latest issue of One World Under Doom and the teases Marvel has released for the post-Doom world. But whatever his fate is in the next couple issues of the big event miniseries by Ryan North and RB Silva, another Canadian writer has dibs on the villain after it ends.

“Between The Will of Doom and Captain America, we’re charting a new course for the Marvel Universe with one simple statement: Doom always has a plan,” said Captain America writer Chip Zdarsky.

The Will of Doom, a cleverly titled one-shot by Zdarsky and CAFU, not only wraps up the last year’s worth of stories, but also sets up Zdarsky’s next storyline in Captain America. It’ll also feature General Thaddeus ‘Thunderbolt’ Ross, who has been Doom’s prisoner these last few months, as shown in the pages of Red Hulk, and of course the Fantastic Four.

SDCC | Frank Tieri + Stefano Raffaele pit ‘Alien vs. Captain America’

The miniseries kicks off in November.

Following the recent Aliens vs. Avengers miniseries that brought the Alien franchise into contact with the Marvel Universe, Marvel announced at the San Diego Comic-Con today Alien vs. Captain America by Frank Tieri and Stefano Raffaele.

The story, set during World War II, will feature Hydra looking for the hidden city of Attilan, home to the Inhumans. But like the stupid Nazis they are, their quest for power leads to them unleashing something very, very bad.

“Ya know, sometimes a project comes along and you just have to pinch yourself that you get to be involved with it,” Tieri said. “I mean, here you have two of the most iconic properties in entertainment—Captain America, who is basically the ultimate hero, going against Alien, one of the ultimate names in horror. As a writer, what more can you ask for than that?”

Chip Zdarsky + Valerio Schiti will chronicle Captain America’s early adventures in the modern era

Debuting in July, the new series explores Cap’s adventures after the thaw.

Batman and Daredevil writer Chip Zdarsky and G.O.D.S. artist Valerio Schiti are headed back to the past in July as the new creative team on Captain America.

Now typically when you hear about a Captain America series set in the past, it’s focused on his star-spangled adventures during World War II — but not this series. This one will be set right after Captain America was thawed out of the ice, as seen in Avengers #4 back in the 1960s, and it’ll flesh out the adventures he had before he joined the team.

“I’ve been a massive Captain America fan for decades. I loved writing the grizzled, older Cap in Avengers: Twilight, so getting to write the actual Captain America title feels like a dream!” Zdarsky said. “We’re exploring Cap’s early days in the modern era with a twist that I think is going to really surprise readers! I’m pretty excited to get this out there in the world, especially with Valerio and Frank’s amazing art!”

NYCC | Marvel announces a new TPB line called the ‘Marvel Premier Collection’

Marvel says the new line will be ‘one of the best’ places for new fans to start reading.

Marvel has announced a new trade paperback line called the Marvel Premier Collection, which will offer material from “Marvel’s most celebrated and prestigious storylines and creators.”

The 6” x 9” formatted collections will be slightly bigger than DC’s Compact Comics line, but seems to be taking a similar approach — offering classic and recent beloved material from their back library. Marvel’s line will cost $5 more than DC’s, coming in at $14.99 each.

“We’ve all heard the age-old questions: ‘Where do I start? What is that one run you just cannot miss? What should I read before or after the next big movie or television show to have the best experience?’ The Marvel Premier Collection program is our answer to each of those questions,” said Dan Buckley, president of Marvel Comics and Franchise. “Comics are at the heart of everything we do at Marvel, so this collection will be our go-to publishing line for any and all fans looking for a way into — or further into — the Marvel Universe. These titles will not be the only place to start of course, but they will be one of the best.”

Greg Pak, Evan Narcisse + Eder Messias soar on ‘Sam Wilson: Captain America’

The ongoing series kicks off in January.

With Captain America: Brave New World set to hit theaters in February, I was wondering when we’d see a new comic featuring Sam Wilson. And lo and behold, Marvel has announced Sam Wilson: Captain America, a new series by co-writers Greg Pak and Evan Narcisse, and artist Eder Messias.

“It’s going to be a fun, fast, high-octane adventure that also explores what it means to feel locked out of the American Dream. I feel pretty confident in saying Sam’s never flown through skies like these before,” Narcisse said.

And given that Brave New World includes the Red Hulk, it’s no surprise to see who is joining Sam Wilson on Taurin Clarke’s cover for the first issue:
