In the 100th issue of his Vicious Shivers newsletter, Cullen Bunn shared a new horror story he made with Federico de Luca and Micah Myers called “The Feast.”

“As we move toward the end of the year, I thought it might be fun to share an all-new 8-page horror comic with the world,” Bunn wrote. “Consider it a gift. Amazing artist Federico de Luca messaged me a few weeks back asking if I had a short script he could work from to try a new art style. I have had the script for ‘The Feast’ in my scripts folder for well over 12 years. It was originally written to be part of a small horror anthology, but that never happened. So, I’m so glad to see Federico’s take on the story. I love the way it turned out! Hmm. There was another story written for that anthology. Maybe I should have that one drawn, too.”

Waid + Mora bring Batman + Superman (+ Seinfeld?) together for ‘World’s Finest’

DC resurrects the long-running title next March.

The new series will feature artwork by Dan Mora and will debut in March, but readers can get their first glimpse of what to expect in Detective Comics #1050 in January.

Here’s the cover:

‘Devil’s Reign’ gets all sorts of crazy crossover titles in January + February

Moon Knight, Spider-Man, Emma Frost and more get caught up in the Kingpin’s war on superheroes.

Chip Zdarsky and Marco Checchetto’s epic run on Daredevil will give way to a crossover event called Devil’s Reign in December, one of several “tentpole” events Marvel announced in August. And in the Mighty Marvel fashion, the main Devil’s Reign title will be accompanied by all sorts of tie-in titles in January, February and beyond.

In case you missed the news, Chip Zdarsky and Marco Checchetto, the creative team for the ongoing Daredevil title, are also the creative team behind the crossover event’s main miniseries. It will run for six issues and will see the Kingpin “bring his full criminal and political power to bear on the super heroes who call NYC home.” Yep, NYC’s mayor is declaring war on the superhero community, and he’s got his new team of Thunderbolts on his side.

Let’s take a look at what’s coming in January and February …

‘Batman: The Knight’ explores how Bruce Wayne became Batman

The new miniseries from Chip Zdarsky and Carmine Di Giandomenico will show Bruce Wayne’s journey to becoming the Dark Knight.

Chip Zdarsky and Carmine Di Giandomenico will flesh out the origin of Batman in a new 10-issue series, titled Batman: The Knight.

The series sounds like it follows in the footsteps of the film Batman Begins, which showed Bruce Wayne on the path that would chart the way to him becoming Batman.

“Over the years readers have seen glimpses of this period of his life, but never as its own story, as a proper volume that will, hopefully, stand the test of time on the shelf next to the great markers of his big ol’ bat-journey,” Zdarsky said in his newsletter.

Kingpin unleashes Marvel’s ‘dark secrets’ in ‘Devil’s Reign’

Chip Zdarsky and Marco Checchetto’s ‘Daredevil’ plans spill out into the rest of the Marvel Universe this December.

The latest boiling point in the eternal conflict between the Kingpin and Daredevil will arrive in December, as New York Mayor Wilson Fisk decides to take aim at the rest of the Marvel Universe’s heroes in Devil’s Reign.

Chip Zdarsky and Marco Checchetto, who have been killing it on the ongoing Daredevil title, are the creative team behind the crossover event’s main miniseries, which will run for six issues. Marvel promises that it will be a “classic” crossover, spilling over into other Marvel titles and setting the stage for new ongoing series as well. Which makes sense, given that the regular Daredevil title will end right before the event begins.

“Our Daredevil plan just kept getting bigger and bigger, to the point where it would clearly affect the Marvel Universe in huge ways,” Zdarsky said. “Thankfully, Marvel recognized this as well and gave Marco and I the opportunity to tell the story on a massive stage with Devil’s Reign. This is a proper Marvel event springing from the pages of Daredevil and I think all Marvel readers will love what’s coming!”

Zdarsky + Phillips team for the hardboiled ‘Newburn’

Image Comics will publish the first issue of the ongoing series in November, which also includes a back-up by Nadia Shammas and Ziyed Yusuf Ayoub.

Chip Zdarsky and Jacob Phillips will team for a noir detective story centered on the New York underworld in November, as the Stillwater writer and That Texas Blood artist team up for Newburn from Image Comics.

“I love the satisfaction that comes from crime procedurals, so the chance to do that in comic form, while crafting a massive story about a fictional New York underworld, was something I couldn’t wait to do,” Zdarsky told CBR.com. “And Jacob is the perfect artist for the book! His work is gritty and full of heart and he’s bringing it all to this book.”

‘Daredevil’ #36 marks the end of the current series — but Marvel promises more

Chip Zdarsky and Manuel Garcia will present an oversized final issue, while Marvel plans an announcement for Aug. 31.

Daredevil seems to bring the best out in its writers; from Frank Miller and Ann Nocenti to Ed Brubaker and Mark Waid, the title has enjoyed several epic, career-defining runs in its history. It’s really been no different for Chip Zdarsky, who has worked with artists like Marco Checchetto and Manuel Garcia to tear down Matt Murdock’s life, create a new one for Elektra and, of course, help the Kingpin find new love.

All that comes to a head in November’s oversized Daredevil #36, which Marvel says is the last issue of the current run, but not Zdarsky’s final issue of Daredevil.

“I know writers like to say things like, ‘It’s all been building toward this!!’ but, really, it has,” Zdarsky told Marvel.com. “When I sat down to write issue one, I knew that this issue was waiting and that it was going to drastically alter the lives of the Daredevil cast. Issue 36 is NOT an ending, it’s a beginning.”

Chip Zdarsky will write + draw ‘Public Doman’ for his Substack newsletter

His collaboration with Kagan McLeod, ‘Kaptara,’ will also return as a digital comic.

Chip Zdarsky is the latest creator to sign on as a premium content provider for Substack. In what has been an eventful week for the email newsletter platform, Zdarsky joins Skottie Young, James Tynion IV, Saladin Ahmed and others in posting comics through their newsletters for those willing to pay.

“So, last year I finished illustrating Sex Criminals. It was bittersweet. The bitter was that I loved creating it and was sad to see it go,” Zdarsky wrote. “The sweet was that my hand was a mashed mess of mincemeat from drawing and colouring 31 issues of a book and it was nice to kick back and relax and instead write 13 books for Marvel and DC. But then I had an idea. And now, like an absolute moron, I’m destroying my hand again.”

Zdarsky + Bagley reunite for ‘Spider-Man: Life Story Annual’ #1

J. Jonah Jameson will take the spotlight in the comic, which arrives in August.

Chip Zdarsky and Mark Bagley told the life story of Peter Parker in Spider-Man: Life Story as if he aged in real time, starting in the 1960s. Now they’ll revisit that concept through the lens of a less trustworthy source in Spider-Man: Life Story Annual #1.

“Working on the original Spider-Man: Life Story was a dream come true for me,” Zdarsky told Marvel.com. “But the problem with the miniseries was that I didn’t have the room to properly tell the life story of one of my all-time favorite characters: J. Jonah Jameson! Getting the chance to revisit this universe with Mark again has been an absolute blast!”
