Athens cartoonists create anthology to benefit Patrick Dean

A new issue of ‘Bezoar’ will benefit the cartoonist, who was diagnosed with ALS earlier this year.

Bezoar is a minicomics anthology put together by a group of Athens, Georgia-based comic creators with a monster theme. With two issues under their belt, the crew decided to use the third issue to help raise money for cartoonist Patrick Dean, who was diagnosed with ALS, or amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, in June.

‘Spy Seal’ enlists Joey Weiser’s ‘Ninja Fukuroh’ as a back-up feature

Rich Tommaso takes Weiser up on his offer to draw a back-up story for his new comic.

Back when Rich Tommaso started talking about Spy Seal, before it became an upcoming comic from Image, he shared several images of the character online that drew rave reviews from fans and fellow creators. One of those creators was Joey Weiser, creator of the really fun Oni Press graphic novel series Mermin, who offered (perhaps jokingly) to draw a back-up series for the comic:

‘Adventure cartoonist’ Lucy Bellwood helps map the ocean floor

Check out a webcomic of her experiences while aboard the R/V Falkor.

Back in 2016, “professional adventure cartoonist” Lucy Bellwood spent three weeks on the R/V Falkor, a research vessel tasked with mapping the ocean floor. While at sea, she created a webcomic about her experience.

Oni to publish Joey Weiser’s ‘Ghost Hog’

Here’s some very welcome publishing news: Mermin creator Joey Weiser will soon be working on his next project, Ghost Hog, which Publisher’s Weekly reveals will come out from Oni Press in 2018.

The story stars Truff, a young boar killed by a hunter, as she navigates the afterlife and tries to let go of her desire for revenge. “She’s a bit of a grump, but you would be too given the circumstances,” Weiser said on Tumblr. “Ghost Hog, naturally, is a little darker in concept than my past work, but will still have a similar tone to Mermin, The Ride Home, etc.”
