DC announces their plans for Pride Month 2024

The DC Pride anthology returns, along with a tribute book to Rachel Pollack, new YA graphic novels and more.

DC has announced their plans for Pride Month in June, the annual commemoration and celebration of the LGBTQIA+ community. This year will include their annual anthology DC Pride 2024, as well as two YA graphic novels and a tribute to the late Rachel Pollack.

DC has been releasing the Pride special for four years now, and the theme for this year seems to be “Journeys and Destinations,” whether we’re talking Metropolis, Gotham, the Fourth World or “the farthest edges of the DC Multiverse.” DC’s announcement spotlights five different books that’ll arrive between now and September, along with a series of Pride-themed variant covers

Quick Hits | Rachel Pollack hospitalized

Rest in peace, Lily Renée. Plus news on IDW Media, censorship in Missouri, Paul Allor and more.

Creators | Former Doom Patrol writer Rachel Pollack has been hospitalized and is currently in the ICU, according to a GoFundMe page started by Patricia Nolan. The page is seeking financial help for Pollack’s health care. “If she is able to go home, she will need 24-hour care. Up to now, we haven’t needed your help. It is time now,” the message reads. Pollack, who is also a novelist and Tarot expert, in addition to writing comics, most recently worked on the Comixology Originals title The Never Ending Party.

Passings | Lily Renée, who worked as a penciller and inker on titles for Fiction House and St. Johns Publications back in the 1940s and 1950s, has passed away at the age of 101. Trina Robbins reported the news on Facebook after hearing from Renée’s son Rick. “She died peacefully at home, as was her wish, yesterday after living a full life of more than 101 years. There is a time for all of us and her death comes on the heels of the birth of her third great grandchild earlier this year,” he said in his message.

Quick Hits | Hotel strike impacts Comic-Con events

Conventions | Both Voice of San Diego and ICv2 report on the workers’ strike at the Hilton Bayfront Hotel in San Diego, which is adjacent to the convention center where Comic-Con International is held every year and where many CCI events and panels are held. According to Voice of San Diego, workers and management have been negotiating for months, but could not come to an agreement.

Pollack + Corallo + Cabrera host ‘The Never Ending Party’ at Comixology

The digital miniseries debuts on Amazon June 7.

Author and former Doom Patrol writer Rachel Pollack will return to comics next week with The Never Ending Party from Comixology Originals. She’s joined by co-writer Joe Corallo (She Said Destroy), artist Eva Cabrera (Kim & Kim), colorists Cons Oroza and Claudia Aguirre, letterers Zakk Saam and Micah Myers, and editor Noah Sharma.

“This was great fun to work on,” Pollack said. “I got to write a Tarot reading heroine, play with how a street smart wild trans woman from the 1990s might look at our current world, and turn the Greek God of ecstasy, Dionysus, into a super-villain who’ll destroy the world just to keep the party going!  And best of all, co-write a book with Joe Corallo.”

Quick Hits | Chick Tracts artist Fred Carter passes away

Plus: Rachel Pollack, Luke Healy and the Siancong War!

Passings | Fred Carter, an artist whose work was seen by millions in the form of Chick Tracts, passed away earlier this month from heart failure at the age of 83. Carter worked anonymously for Jack Chick, publisher of Chick Publications, and is credited with drawing more than half of the Christian comic pamphlets. He also worked with Chick on The Crusaders, a comic that featured a white former Green Beret and a Black ex-militant who “went on adventures for Christ.” The duo looked a lot like Chick and Carter.
