A veteran firefighter discovers his super powers in ‘Midlife (Or How to Hero at Fifty!)’

Image Comics will publish the new series by Brian Buccellato and Stefano Simeone.

Brian Buccellato and Stefano Simeone will bring a new hero to life in Midlife (Or How to Hero at Fifty!), a new series starting at Image Comics in October.

“I’m super excited to tell this weirdly personal story that is tonally closer to my recent Aftershock series, Chicken Devil,” said Buccellato. “It’s a combination of grounded, humorous, dark, and absurd—featuring a biracial 50-year-old rookie hero who accepts the challenge of using his newfound powers for good… even if he does have a bad back and creaky knees. It’s also an opportunity to tell a superhero story from a different point of view, with a protagonist who is half Chinese and half Puerto Rican and drawn from my own life experience as a father starting a new family again at 50.”

Jeff Lemire announces ‘The Last Days of Black Hammer’ graphic novel

The writer teams with artist Stefano Simeone for the 100-page story.

As a part of Comics Day on Substack, Jeff Lemire has announced and launched The Last Days of Black Hammer, a new graphic novel with artist Stefano Simeone.

Lemire was one of the first wave of creators last year who began offering a paid tier for his Substack newsletter, Tales from the Farm, with plans to post new comics content for premium subscribers. Those plans included new Black Hammer stories and a graphic novel written and drawn by Lemire called Fishflies (the second chapter of which Lemire recently began posting).

Unlike Fishflies, Lemire says that The Last Days of Black Hammer will be available for free for all subscribers, not just the paid ones.

Meet the unluckiest teens in the world in Erman + Simeone’s ‘Good Luck’

New miniseries will debut from BOOM! Studios in June.

In a world where luck is quantifiable and something you’re born with, creators Matthew Erman and Stefano Simeone will tell the story of the Unfortunates, a group of teens with no luck at all, in the upcoming comic Good Luck.

The five-issue miniseries will debut in June from BOOM! Studios.

Good Luck is not only a mind-bending sci-fi adventure about the four unluckiest teens on the planet but also one of the hardest and biggest things I’ve ever written. It wound up being one of the most personal, as well, because it’s a story about unlucky people taking wild swings and hoping for the best, despite what they may believe about themselves,” said Erman, the co-creator of Long Lost. “I’m so excited for you all to meet the unlucky Artie, Cherry, Hilde and Joseph, who live in a universe with a lot of weird little inspirations—Annihilation, Talking Head songs, X-Men, Chrono Trigger—that make this series so unique and hopefully very fun for readers to jump into!”

BOOM! to release ‘Mega Man: Fully Charged’ in August

The miniseries is based on the Cartoon Network series of the same name.

BOOM! Studios has announced they’ve picked up the license to Mega Man, the popular Capcom video game franchise, and will kick off a six-issue series starring the character called Mega Man: Fully Charged.

The Mega Man license was previously held by Archie Comics, who published 55 issues of a Mega Man title between 2011 and 2015.

Fully Charged is based on the Cartoon Network series of the same name, which was produced by Man of Action Entertainment, the group set up by comic writers Joe Casey, Joe Kelly, Steven T. Seagle and Duncan Rouleau. A.J. Marchisello and Marcus Rinehart, who wrote for the TV show, will write the comic, with Stefano Simeone providing the art.

“I can’t believe I’m working on something that I grew up with and enjoyed so much when I was a kid,” said Simeone. “I’m very happy to be working on a new Mega Man comic book, and I can’t wait to share my enthusiasm and excitement on the pages of this series with readers and fans everywhere!”
