Antarctica by Simon Birks and Willi Roberts, the Top Cow miniseries that debuted in July, will continue as an ongoing series after issue #5.

“If readers already love the first two issues of volume one, they’re going to love this new arc as we get the chance to delve deep into the previous events surrounding the Fracture and explore the Hannahs’ stories,” Birks said. “We’re thrilled to once again be working with the team at Top Cow. Not only have they been professional, but they’ve really taken the time to get to know us, and I’m delighted they love the book as much as we do. Antarctica takes no prisoners, and I’m excited to share our adventure with the readers. Willi and I have created something exceptional; an incredible experience full of unique twists and turns to keep everyone guessing right up until the end. As if one married The Fugitive with The Cabin in the Woods.”

Slugfest is a roundup of cool announcements about projects coming to a shelf near you from comics creators, publishers and more.

Image Comics is serving up a Christmas treat for Criminal fans in the pages of their Image! 30th anniversary anthology. Creators Ed Brubaker and Sean Phillips have created a Christmas story starring Teeg Lawless in a take-off of Charles Dickens’ classic A Christmas Carol.

“I’ve been wanting to do a Christmas-themed Criminal story since we first started the book,” said Brubaker. “So, Sean and I had a blast returning to that world for ‘Teeg’s Christmas Carol.’ Twelve pages of bad dad Christmases and history lessons.”

Phillips drew the cover, which features a cigarette puffing, Santa-hat wearing Teeg:

‘Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur’ series will debut in December

The long-awaited new series will be written by Jordan Ifueko with art by Alba Glez.

Last fall Marvel announced a batch of “eight tentpole projects” for 2022, including the Daredevil-centric crossover Devil’s Reign, She-Hulk, Avengers Forever and a pair of Wolverine miniseries, among others. While most of those projects are either in flight or have already landed, one of them, a Moon Girl series, never came to pass — until now.

Originally teased for February of this year, Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur #1 will finally arrive in December. And the “top secret” creative team that was teased will be novelist Jordan Ifueko and artist Alba Glez.

Moon Girl hangs with Miles Morales, the Avengers + more this summer

Novelist Mohale Mashigo teams with different artists to chronicle Moon Girl’s search for a missing Devil Dinosaur.

Hey, remember last fall when Marvel announced a batch of “eight tentpole projects” for 2022? They included Devil’s Reign, the new She-Hulk miniseries, a pair of Wolverine miniseries — and Moon Girl, whose creative team was “top secret” at the time.

While the other seven have all come to fruition, Moon Girl, which was supposed to kick off in February, didn’t. Until now. Marvel has announced a pair of one-shots teaming up Moon Girl with Miles Morales and the Avengers, with more on the way. In them, she takes a “thrilling journey across the Marvel Universe” as she searches for a missing Devil Dinosaur. They’re written by novelist Mohale Mashigo (The Yearning), and each are drawn by a different artist. They also say an ongoing Moon Girl title is on the way.

“Writing Moon Girl is a dream come true,” Mashigo said. “Lunella is fun, quirky, smart and full of energy. I’ve enjoyed seeing her get out of her comfort zone and shine even brighter.”

Marvel will preview Wells/Romita Jr.’s ‘Amazing Spider-Man’ on Free Comic Book Day

Following the release of a new ‘Amazing Spider-Man’ #1 in April, Marvel will showcase the new creative team’s work with a free issue in May.

Marvel has announced more details and revealed covers for two of their three Free Comic Book Day titles for 2022.

Last year’s Spider-Man/Venom FCBD title previewed the “Beyond” era of Amazing Spider-Man, where Ben Reilly and the Beyond Corporation took over the Spider-Man name from Peter Parker and Marvel re-introduced a “writer’s room” approach to the comic. With the Beyond era wrapping up soon, Zeb Wells — one of several writers currently writing the title — will team with the legendary John Romita Jr. for a relaunch of Amazing Spider-Man. And Marvel will offer a preview of their run in this year’s Spider-Man/Venom FCBD title.

In addition, like last year, Marvel will preview the work Al Ewing, Ram V and Bryan Hitch are doing on Venom. Here’s a look at the main cover by Romita Jr. and the variant cover for the FCBD issue by Jonboy Meyers. Is this the first time we’ve seen a variant cover on a Free Comic Book Day title? I can’t recall that being a thing before.
