The Nib will shut down after August

Editor Matt Bors announced the decision today, noting ‘The math isn’t working anymore.’

The Nib, the award-winning, critically acclaimed and much-needed political comics website and publisher, will shut down at the end of the summer.

Editor and publisher Matt Bors announced the decision on the site, noting the decision was “incredibly hard,” but “the math isn’t working anymore.”

“This was an incredibly hard decision to make and there’s no one factor involved,” Bors said. “Rather it involves, well, everything. The rising costs of paper and postage, the changing landscape of social media, subscription exhaustion, inflation, and the simple difficulty of keeping a small independent publishing project alive with relatively few resources—though we did a lot with them. The math isn’t working anymore.”

Peace with a price: ‘The Sacrificers’ by Remender + Fiumara debuts in August

The science fiction series follows the preview that was released on Free Comic Book Day earlier this month.

After fans received a preview during this year’s Free Comic Book Day, Rick Remender and Max Fiumara’s new ongoing series The Sacrificers will debut from Image Comics in August.

The high-concept science fiction series is set on another world where peace comes with a price. Remender and Fiumara are joined by colorist Dave McCaig on the project.

“Max has long been one of my very favorite artists,” said Remender. “We worked together briefly on a Spider-Man story years ago and he’s always been at the top of my list of artists to reunite with. I think what we’ve developed here is one of the most beautiful and unique stories in the marketplace, in no small part due to Max and color master Dave McCaig’s next level world creating. It is truly unlike anything I’ve ever seen before.”

‘Black Hammer: The End’ will bring ‘a whole new beginning’ to the Black Hammer story

Jeff Lemire and Malachi Ward continue the story from ‘Black Hammer Reborn’ in August.

Jeff Lemire and Dean Ormston’s Black Hammer universe will continue in August with Black Hammer: The End, which, despite the title continues the ongoing story and picks up right after Black Hammer Reborn. Lemire will write the series, with Malachi Ward providing the art.

They’ll be joined by letterer Nate Piekos for a world-hopping adventure that will bring a return to Black Hammer Farm, the place where everything started.

Black Hammer Reborn left the Black Hammer Universe on quite a cliffhanger,” said Lemire,”and now we’ll find out what happens next! Black Hammer: The End is a story I’ve been building across the various Black Hammer books for years now. It will pull storylines, and characters, from all the various series into one massive story which will both be a conclusion of all we’ve been doing, but also usher in a fresh start, and a whole new beginning, for the Black Hammer Universe!”

‘Old Ma’am Logan’ will return in ‘Buffy the Last Vampire Slayer’ miniseries

Casey Gilly and Oriol Roig show us a future where Willow’s daughter becomes a slayer.

In the Buffy the Last Vampire Slayer one-shot that came out in 2021, Casey Gilly and Joe Jaro introduced us to a Buffy Summers who was well out of her senior year and living out life in her more senior years. Now that weathered, veteran Buffy will return in a five-issue miniseries from BOOM! Studios.

This time, Gilly is joined by artist Oriol Roig as Buffy mentors a new slayer — Thess, the daughter of Willow and Tara.

“It always feels SO GOOD to sink my fangs back into Last Vampire Slayer! For this arc, Oriol and I are bringing readers to beautiful Santa Carmen, CA, where our girl Thessaly is figuring out the life of a Slayer in her early 20s: she’s got a job at the local boardwalk, a big crush on her cute co-worker, oh—and a bunch of grizzly supernatural murders to stop,” Gilly said. “It’s been such a privilege to see these characters through three books so far and I hope everyone is excited to see what we have in store for them.”
