Oni Press is putting the spotlight on the artists behind their EC Comics revival with Artists From the Abyss, a new series of one-shots launching in November.
Each ad-free issue will feature one of the artists who has contributed to EC’s new era, collecting their previous EC Comics stories alongside a brand-new tale created for the anthology.
The series begins Nov. 11 with EC Artists From the Abyss: Charlie Adlard #1, showcasing The Walking Dead artist’s work for EC Comics, along with a new story written by Chris Condon and Tim Seeley.

Subsequent issues will spotlight David Lapham in December, Sami Kivelä in January and Leomacs in February. Each issue pairs the featured artist with a lineup of writers that includes Greg Pak, Ben H. Winters, Matt Kindt, J. Holtham, Corinna Bechko, Joe R. Lansdale, David and Maria Lapham, and Chris Condon.
“Across nearly a century of comics history, EC Comics has a strong claim to the greatest stable of artists ever assembled by a single publisher. With our new slate of acclaimed EC titles at Oni Press, it’s been a tremendous privilege to continue that terrifying, tantalizing tradition in style by uniting some of the comics industry’s greatest living talents and fastest rising stars alike for new tales of grievous horror and shocking science-fiction,” said Senior Editor Allyson Gronowitz. “Now we’re taking it up a notch with a novel celebration of our newest crop of grisled EC veterans – and what better way to start than with 32 pages of brilliant artwork by the inimitable Charlie Adlard?”
EC Artists From The Abyss: Charlie Adlard #1 arrives in stores Nov. 11. Oni will reveal more about the future of EC Comics during its “Oni Press: The Loudest Thing in Color” panel at San Diego Comic-Con on Thursday, July 24.
