Time travel + Dick Wolf: Posehn, Trohman + Johnson team up for ‘Rifters’ from Image Comics

The new series begins in June.

Comic writer and comedian Brian Posehn and Fall Out Boy guitarist Joe Trohman are co-writing a new series coming from Image Comics this summer. They’re joined by Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles artist Chris Johnson for the “time-traveling comedy romp” that’s described as a cross between Time Cop and Law & Order.

“Joe and I are having a blast with Rifters. We put time travel and police procedurals in a comedy blender, we had underwear on our head and we yelled ‘Dick Wolf‘ three times,” said Posehn.

Marvel marks 60 years of Daredevil next month

Saladin Ahmed, Aaron Kuder, Ann Nocenti, Stefano Raffaele, D.G. Chichester and more will contribute to the oversized ‘Daredevil’ #8.

Marvel will celebrate the 60th anniversary of Daredevil next month in Daredevil #8, an oversized issue featuring multiple stories by past and present creators who worked on the title.

And there’s a lot to look forward to in the anniversary issue. It will include a main story by Saladin Ahmed and Aaron Kuder, who relaunched the title last year and cast Matt Murdock as a priest, as he continues to battle demons based on his own seven deadly sins. Other creators contributing to the issue include Ann Nocenti, D.G. Chichester and Erica Schultz, who have written Daredevil in the past, as well as the two artists I most associate with the character: John Romita Jr. drew the main cover, while Frank Miller did a variant.

Peter Milligan + Raül Fernandez bend reality in the murder mystery ‘Profane’

The series will debut from BOOM! Studios in June.

Veteran comics writer Peter Milligan, known for the delightful X-Cellent, the gritty Dogs of London and the enigmatic Engima, among countless other titles, returns this summer with Profane.

The new series, drawn by Detective Comics and Justice League Dark Raül Fernandez, is described as a “mind-bending murder mystery” by publisher BOOM! Studios.

“I’m excited by Profane, exploring as it does the twisty, noir atmosphere that I like, and with the weirdness and existential angst I like even more.  A story like this needs the right artist and Raül Fernandez is not only a great artist but a truly perfect match,” Milligan said.

Matt Wagner’s Grendel returns with the ‘Grendel: Devil’s Crucible’ trilogy

The first of three new miniseries follows in the footsteps of ‘Devil’s Odyssey.’

Matt Wagner’s long-running Grendel will return this summer for the first of three new miniseries titled Grendel: Devil’s Crucible–Defiance. Grendel’s creator will be joined again by his son, colorist Brennan Wagner, on the series, along with letterers Steve Dutro and Rob Leigh.

Devil’s Crucible follows the eight-issue Devil’s Odyssey, which advanced the futuristic Grendel: Devil Quest story for the first time since the mid-1990s. Grendel first appeared in the early 1980s at Comico, and has appeared on and off at Dark Horse ever since Comico went bankrupt with stories set at different times and focused on different characters.

“Devil’s Odyssey was a dramatic break in the futuristic setting of Grendel. And Devil’s Crucible goes one step further by turning the precepts and setting of that world on its collective ear,” Wagner said. “Gone are the dominant Grendel clans and their military elitism, and yet that fascistic power structure has been replaced…by something far worse! I’ve got some major surprises on deck for this storyline and a word of warning for longtime readers; be careful what you wish for!”

Sam Maggs + Lisa Sterle bring ‘The Wicked Trinity’ to Greendale High

Sabrina’s not the only teenage witch in Greendale.

Sabrina Spellman’s old high school is getting a new class of witches in The Wicked Trinity, a one-shot written by Sam Maggs with art by Lisa Sterle. They’re joined by colorist Ellie Wright and letterer Jack Morelli for the project.

“Real witches writing real witches — that’s how we do things over at Archie Comics!” Maggs said. “I was named after a famous witch — Samantha from Bewitched — and so I grew up absolutely obsessed with everything witchcraft, devouring every book series I could about teen witches. That makes Wicked Trinity a dream project for me.”

The one-shot will feature Amber Nightstone, Jade Kazane and Sapphire Gill, who have appeared in Archie classic, all-ages titles, but this will be their first appearance in Archie’s line of comics for older readers.

“When Editor-In-Chief Mike Pellerito came up with the idea of the Wicked Trinity, I was immediately intrigued,” said Archie’s Senior Director of Editorial Jamie L. Rotante. “I even had the good fortune to work on the script for Jade and Sapphire’s first appearance in last year’s Sabrina Annual Spectacular comic for younger readers. What I especially loved about these magical teens is that they could seamlessly transcend from classic-Archie stories into more mature, even horror stories. I was eager to start developing their world with a modern sensibility, taking cues from the great work of Kelly Thompson and Veronica Fish on our Sabrina the Teenage Witch series, and Sarah Kuhn and Carola Borelli on our recent Darkling one-shot. Inspired by series like Charmed and films like The Craft, I knew there was so much potential to build up this coven in a story that beautifully blends magical fantasy with horror.”

Return to a ‘lake of goo’ in ‘Venomverse Reborn’

Hang with Venoms from around the multiverse in the new anthology series.

Rumors about the death of the Venomverse were apparently exaggerated, as Marvel has announced a follow-up anthology, Venomverse Reborn, for this summer.

Each issue will feature multiple stories by different creators starring different Venoms from around the multiverse. They’ll also include a framing sequence by Venom writer Al Ewing and Danilo S. Beyruth that will “lay the groundwork for the next symbiote epic.”

“I’m doing the framing sequence for these issues, and that means I get to see every one of these new symbiote sensations hit my inbox before anyone else outside editorial, and that’s definitely a perk of the job,” Ewing said. “As for what’s in that framing story—if you’ve been a fan of some of the more cosmic aspects we’ve brought to Venom of late, you should be more than happy. But the beauty of an anthology series like this is that there’s something to please everyone who dives into our lake of goo.”

Thanos plagues the Marvel Universe this summer in ‘The Infinity Watch’ crossover

The Mad Titan and the Infinity Stones return in an event that runs through Marvel’s annuals.

Thanos’ ongoing quest to control the Infinity Gems Stones returns to prominence this summer in nine of Marvel’s 2024 annuals. The crossover event, spearheaded by writer Derek Landy, will begin in Thanos Annual #1 and continue through Amazing Spider-Man, Immortal Thor and more.

Landy will write some of the main stories in the annuals and all of the back-up stories, which will be drawn by Sara Pichelli.

Now, if you’re not up on your Infinity Stones lore, they are indeed the powerful artifacts formerly known as the Infinity Gems, which Thanos once used to form the Infinity Gauntlet and wipe out half the population of the universe, back in the Infinity Gauntlet series by Jim Starlin, George Perez and Ron Lim. More recently, in the Infinite Destinies event (which itself ran through several Marvel annuals a few years back and happens to be on sale on Comixology today), the stones were grafted into “the very bodies and souls of a few of Marvel’s up-and-coming heroes and villains.” These included Star, who has appeared in Captain Marvel and was on a recent team of Thunderbolts; Prince of Power, who appeared in Al Ewing’s run on Guardians of the Galaxy; Multitude; and Overtime. Overall, though, they’ve been under the radar since the Infinite Destinies event.

‘Destro’ and ‘Scarlett’ land in the Energon Universe in June

Kelly Thompson, Marco Fereari, Dan Watters and Andrei Bressan continue to re-introduce the G.I. Joe and Cobra teams at Skybound.

Skybound’s Energon Universe will continue to grow in June with two more miniseries focused on characters from G.I. Joe — Scarlett by Kelly Thompson and Marco Ferrari, and Destro by Dan Watters and Andrei Bressan.

The two miniseries follow the recent series starring Cobra Commander and Duke, which brought characters from G.I. Joe into the larger shared universe that also includes Transformers and Void Rivals.

“Duke and Cobra Commander were two of the highest-selling G.I. Joe comics of all time, and they’re only the start of our new beginning for the amazing G.I. Joe franchise,” said Skybound’s Sean Mackiewicz. “With G.I. Joe and Cobra now locked on an unavoidable collision course, Scarlett and Destro will introduce new characters and factions that will disrupt their most carefully laid plans. Duggan + Brown team for ‘Falling in Love on the Path to Hell’ at Image Comics

A gunslinger and a samurai walk into purgatory …

If you’re wondering what Gerry Duggan will be up to once his run on X-Men ends, never fear — he’s teaming up with artist Garry Brown for an ambitious creator-owned series at Image Comics.

Falling in Love on the Path to Hell will start at the end for the two main characters — an Onna-musha warrior and an Old West gunslinger. After being mortally wounded on different continents, the pair “awake together in a purgatory ruled by a ruthless, nightmarish society of damned warriors.”

“We’re inspired by samurai films, grindhouse, westerns, Tarantino, Lone Wolf & Cub and of course all our favorite weird, supernatural comic books,” said Duggan. “This romance is our love letter to creator-owned comics—it’s a story we can only tell at Image Comics.”

Daredevil goes ‘Giant-Size’ in June as he faces a possessed Kingpin

Saladin Ahmed and Paul Davidson bring a very different Wilson Fisk back into Matt Murdock’s life.

Daredevil’s past and present will collide in Giant-Size Daredevil this summer, as regular Daredevil scribe Saladin Ahmed and artist Paul Davidson show what happens when the demonic forces making Matt Murdock’s life a living hell in his monthly title decide to take control of the Kingpin.

“I’ve always loved villain POV stories, and Wilson Fisk has the ultimate street level villain POV,” Ahmed said. “We went really big and bloody with this, bringing Kingpin back in a huge way, and I can’t wait for fans to check it out.”

Archie and the gang prepare for summer movie season in June’s ‘Archie & Friends: Blockbuster Movies’

Get your first look at the sensational character find of 2024, PoolNoodle!

Before you know it, summer will be here, bringing warmer days and a fresh batch of big, blockbuster movies to enjoy.

To help prepare you for the summer movie season, Archie Comics will release Archie & Friends: Blockbuster Movies in June, and we’re pleased to not only reveal the cover, but also give you a look at a new character debuting in this issue — PoolNoodle! Designed by Steven Butler, PoolNoodle will serve as a kinder, gentler, fourth-wall breaking foil for Archie as they “poke fun at every movie you can shake a stick at — or sword.”

The special is written by Ian Flynn, who has helped bring new life to Archie’s superheroes in recent years, and drawn by Steven Butler and Lily Butler. They’re joined by colorist Glenn Whitmore and letterer Jack Morelli.

“Between all the blockbuster movies with escalating premises and the rampant cross-property projects, going to the movies can be a little overwhelming,” Flynn said. “One thing Archie is great at is looking at the world and making these problems more manageable and even a little bit funny. (Although, let’s be honest, if they let me do a Crusaders ‘Cross the Cosmos’ event, it’d look something like this.)”
