Ashley J. Williams’ never-ending battle against the forces of darkness heads to Riverdale this February when Dynamite Entertainment and Archie Comics team up for Archie x The Army of Darkness.

Writer Erik Burnham returns to the Army of Darkness mythos, this time bringing along the Riverdale gang for a supernatural showdown, with art by Archie Comics veteran Bill Galvan.

“I’m excited that I get to inconvenience Ash once again by pitting him against the forces of evil, but to also get a crack at writing the genuine American icons that are Archie and the gang at the same time? Pinch me,” Burnham said.

School is back in session in ‘X-Men United’

Eve L. Ewing and Tiago Palma open the doors to Graymatter Lane, a place where mutants can ‘come together to fight, hook up and hash out their differences.’

The X-Men will return to their roots in March in X-Men United, as Eve L. Ewing and Tiago Palma bring together mutants from different eras at a new academy called Greymatter Lane.

The new academy will serve as “the central hub” for mutants around the world, boosting a staff that includes Wolverine, Beast, Storm, Magneto, Rogue and its founder, Emma Frost. But not every mutant will be a fan.

“Working on the X-team for the past couple of years has been some of the most fun I’ve had writing comics ever,” Ewing said. “The idea for Graymatter Lane was a collective one, from lots of writers in a room brainstorming, and it’s so cool because the psychic space allows for things to be weirder and more surreal, while still building on the classic Xavier’s School energy we’ve all loved for decades.”

Leonide the Vampyr returns in a miniseries by Mike Mignola + Rachele Aragno

The creators will reveal more of the young vampyr’s backstory in March.

Hellboy creator Mike Mignola is reuniting with artist Rachele Aragno for Leonide The Vampyr: The House of Yonda, a new two-part horror series launching in March from Dark Horse Comics. They’ll be joined by colorist Dave Stewart and letter Clem Robins.

The creators first introduced readers to the young vampyr Leonide in two one-shots released in 2022: Leonide The Vampyr: Miracle at the Crow’s Head and Leonide The Vampyr: A Christmas for Crows. Those initial stories followed the charming, yet terrifying, Leonide as she bewitched unsuspecting villagers while being pursued by an undead priest determined to stop her bloodthirsty schemes. The character originated from one of Aragno’s sketches posted on social media in 2021, which captured Mignola’s attention and sparked their collaboration.

“I’m madly in love with Leonide and her story,” Aragno said. “When Mike and I created her, I didn’t believe she could have such a vast world behind her, filled with stories, ancestors and a gothic castle. I could draw her for hours, guided by Mike’s words, which gives power to everything he does. These two comics will reveal a new backstory for this little vampire that will help us understand and love her even better.”

After centuries trapped inside a sacred relic, the Yule Witch Perchta has been accidentally unleashed by three Pennsylvania teens just days before Christmas. And she’s brought a monstrous entourage that includes the infamous Yule Cat and the ghostly Meri Lywd on her mission of revenge.

Issue #3 brings all that chaos to a head. As Perchta’s creatures overrun the streets, it falls to a ragtag band of the town’s brightest, oddest and most underestimated kids, along with an ancient warrior elf, to pull off a Christmas miracle.

Andrew MacLean + Alexis Ziritt team for the run-and-gun mayhem of ‘Death Fight Forever’

The Head Lopper creator is teaming up with gonzo artist Alexis Ziritt (Space Riders) for Death Fight Forever, a five-issue miniseries crashing into comic shops this February from Image Comics. Think ‘90s beat-’em-up arcade chaos meets heavy-metal energy, and you’re in the right arena.

“Death Fight Forever was born from a love of ’90s beat ‘em up video games and a desire to write a comic that highlights some of the coolest art styles of our time,” said MacLean.

Tyler Boss + Martin Simmonds unmask Skybound’s ‘Phantom of the Opera’

The miniseries featuring the infamous Universal Monster will take the spotlight in February.

For more than a century, The Phantom of the Opera has haunted stage and screen. Now the iconic character prepares for an encore in an entirely new medium.

Skybound, in partnership with Universal, will bring Universal Monsters: The Phantom of the Opera, to comics next year. Tyler Boss and Martin Simmonds will bring the Phantom to the printed page in February, following Skybound’s other Univeral Monsters series, featuring Dracula, the Invisible Man and more.

“What separates the Phantom of the Opera from the other Universal Monsters is that it’s the only ghost story of the lot,” Boss said. “With the Paris Opera House as our haunted site, and a production of Faust about to be performed, I couldn’t imagine a more perfect collaborator to breathe life into the Phantom of the Opera than Martin Simmonds.”

A lost Dave Stevens story takes flight in ‘The Rocketeer: The Island’

John Layman, Jacob Edgar and K.J. Diaz send the pulp hero on a rocket-fueled adventure involving Amelia Earhart.

The Rocketeer will return to comics next February in an adventure drawn directly from a “lost” story by Dave Stevens.

IDW has announced The Rocketeer: The Island by writer John Layman, artist Jacob Edgar, and colorist K.J. Díaz, adapting a never-before-published story outline written by the character’s creator. Stevens, who created The Rocketeer in 1982 as a love letter to pulp serials and Golden Age adventure strips, left behind notes, sketches and partial concepts before his passing in 2008. One such outline — unseen and unused for decades — is now becoming a full comic for the very first time.

“This Rocketeer project has been coming together for the past few months, and I can’t say enough about how much joy I’m getting every time a new page comes in,” said Layman. “Playing in Dave Stevens’ world, a retro-world of charm, humor and rocket-fueled adventure, has been an absolute blast. As an artist Stevens was an absolute virtuoso, and I feel like Rocketeer is an all-time classic comic character — he’s always been one of my favorites. IDW, a publisher I’ve already done work for on some of my very favorite comic projects, has given me another fantastic opportunity to get paid while having fun, while allowing me to honor a vision of a comic book hero of mine, and play in a world I’ve loved for decades. Plus, the art and colors by Jacob Edgar and K.J. Díaz are just phenomenal and perfect for the book.”

‘Daredevil’ returns next March by Stephanie Phillips + Lee Garbett

Matt Murdock gets a new job and is targeted by a new villain named Omen.

Marvel will relaunch Daredevil next year, as Stephanie Phillips and Lee Garbett head to Hell’s Kitchen for new stories featuring the introduction of a new villain named Omen. Also, Matt Murdock goes back to school!

“I’m taking on one of my favorite characters with one of my favorite artists, and together we’re exploring Daredevil’s noir sensibilities,” Phillips said. “Lee Garbett brings so much style and emotion to every page, and I couldn’t ask for a better partner to bring this version of Daredevil to life.”

Phillips and Garbett follow writer Saladin Ahmed’s run on the title, who worked with artists Aaron Kuder, Jose Luis and others over the course of 25 issues. Phillips is also the first woman to write the Daredevil ongoing series since Ann Nocenti’s run ended in 1991.

Cullen Bunn + Christopher Mitten return to ‘The Autumn Kingdom’ next year

Sommer and Winter’s quest to rescue their parents brings them in contact with ‘The Wraithbound Queen.’

Cullen Bunn and Christopher Mitten’s Autumn Kingdom, which came out last year, is getting a sequel. Oni Press has announced Autumn Kingdom: The Wraithbound Queen will kick off in February, continuing the story of two girls, Sommer and Winter, who seek to rescue their parents from a realm ruled by faeries, monsters and demons.

“When I started writing Autumn Kingdom, I knew I had a big, epic story to tell,” Bunn said. “I also knew that I needed to break it into easy-to-digest chapters. In a lot of ways, it’s like the classic dark sword and sorcery tales of old. You can jump in with Wraith Queen and easily follow and enjoy the story. You’ll know there’s a bigger world to explore, but that only adds fuel to the world-building fire!”

SWAT Kats: The Radical Squadron, the cult-classic cartoon from the 1990s, is returning as a comic. The project was first announced at the San Diego Comic-Con this past summer, and the crowdfunding campaign is now live on Kickstarter.

Titled “Megakat City Has Fallen,” the comic will be created by co-writers Frank J. Barbiere and Kevin Roditeli, with artwork by Jorge Corona and Sarah Stern. The Tremblay Bros., who created the cartoon series, are also involved, along with editor Joseph Illidge.

“Swat Kats was one of my favorite animated shows of its time because of its unique mix of adventure, characters with believable personalities, and city politics,” Illidge said. “Batman meets Blacksad. So when Kevin offered me the opportunity to join his radical squadron as editor, it was an automatic, ‘Let’s go!’ We’re looking forward to reigniting this world for you in a new era of high-level action with bigger stakes.”

Marvel + DC surprise release more crossover comics on their digital platforms

‘The Flash/Fantastic Four’ arrives on DC Universe Infinite, while ‘Thor/Shazam’ debuts on Marvel Unlimited.

Marvel and DC’s renewed bromance took a new form today, as both publishers debuted a new crossover comic on their respective digital platforms.

Thor/Shazam! by Al Ewing and Jethro Morales can be found on Marvel Unlimited, while The Flash/Fantastic Four by Jeremy Adams and Adrián Gutiérrez arrived on DC Universe Infinite. Both require a subscription, but if you’re subscribed to one of them, Marvel and DC are offering 30-day trials so you can check out the other if you like. Yes, Marvel is promoting DC Universe Infinite and DC is promoting Marvel Unlimited. Up is down, left is right … dogs and cats, living together, and all that. It’s nice to see them working together again, and these stories look like fun
