Hellcat leaps into a new miniseries by Cantwell + Lins

The new series will feature themes and settings introduced in Cantwell’s run on ‘Iron Man.’

So I originally typed “Catwell” in the headline, accidentally, but it might have worked in this context. And that context is that Christopher Cantwell — note the “n” — is writing a miniseries featuring Hellcat, a character he brought into prominence and into Tony Stark’s life in his recent run on Iron Man.

Cantwell will be joined by artist Alex Lins, who previously worked with the writer on Moon Knight: Black, White & Blood. Unfortunately I don’t think I can make his name into a cat pun. Alex Lynx? That’s probably a stretch.

In any event, the series is set in the haunted house that Patsy Walker inherited and last appeared in the Iron Man/Hellcat Annual for 2022.

“It’s been so rewarding to go even deeper with Hellcat in this new miniseries, and work so closely with Alex Lins on this book,” Cantwell said. “I feel like Patsy was a great voice of conscience and groundedness in Iron Man, but we also hinted at some internal struggles and lingering darkness within her, which we explored even more in our Iron Man/Hellcat Annual issue this summer.”

Family Circus, Macanuda, Broom Hilda and many more featured the Peanuts in their strips on Nov. 26.

Yesterday Charles Schulz, the legendary creator of Peanuts who passed away in 2000, would have turned 100 years old. And to celebrate this milestone, cartoonists and artists paid tribute to Schulz and his most famous creations in the panels of their own comic strips and on social media.

“Schulz is the only cartoonist ever to receive this honor—a fitting tribute for a man who devoted his entire life to cartooning,” The Schulz Museum posted.

Here’s a look at a few of them:

Alex Segura + Nickolej Villiger launch ‘Mara Llave – Keeper of Time’

The pulpy sci-fi comic strip is available on Comics Kingdom.

Secret Identity and The Black Ghost writer Alex Segura has teamed up with artist Nickolej Villiger for a new comic strip on Comics Kingdom called Mara Llave – Keeper of Time.

Described as a “sci-fi/time travel romp,” the new strip has only had three installments thus far, but already has introduced a world overseen by a group called the Time Keepers.

“In the wake of what many call ‘The Great Schism,’ (though the remaining Keepers themselves refer to it as ‘The Giant Eff-Up’) the Keepers are all but gone, leaving the time stream vulnerable to an assault that could destroy the universe as we know it,” the description reads. “But one keeper survives – an aging human man named Kent Gordin, stranded in the 21st century. As the life he’s known falls apart, Gordin holds on to one sliver of hope – a child, an alien from a distant world, shunted to Earth to escape a militaristic, fascist regime that threatened to destroy her family.”

Final girl next door: Archie announces new horror one-shot featuring Betty

Micol Ostow, Laura Braga and more visit the ‘final girl’ horror trope in a new one-shot.

Archie Horror continues to find new, fun ways to mash up the Riverdale gang with the horror genre and tropes. Their latest project will cast everyone’s favorite “girl next door” as a “final girl” in Betty: The Final Girl.

Archie’s press release defines a “final girl” as “the clever survivor who carries a relentless plot across the finish line, taking it to the bad guy in the last scene.” For reference, see Halloween, Friday the 13th, Scream and any number of slasher movies out there.

Betty won’t be the only Archie character spotlighted in this issue, as the one-shot will include multiple stories, with a framing sequence written by Micol Ostow.

“I’m a diehard horror fan, and I’ve been obsessed with how seamlessly Archie’s been able to integrate different styles, levels, and aesthetics of spookiness into their Archie Horror library,” Ostow said. “And while I don’t have one favorite scary movie or book, I’ve always been a sucker for the ‘final girl’ trope. It hit me that Betty would make a fantastic final girl: blonde, kick-ass, capable!”
