Esad Ribić, Ivan Brandon, Nic Klein and Tom Muller team up for a new series from Image Comics.
Image Comics has released a preview for VS, by artist Esad Ribić, writer Ivan Brandon, colorist Nic Klein and designer Tom Muller.
Announced in 2016, here’s how Image describes the series:
War has become a spectator sport.
Privately funded armies of superstar soldiers march into battle for fame, profit and the glory of their sponsor nations. When a new generation of soldiers arrive, top gladiator Satta Flynn is about to discover how fleeting the limelight can be—and how punishing.
“Making VS is a dream,” said Ribić. “After all these years, it feels great to be able to create my own world and tech from scratch.”

Writer Mark Millar teases something new involving Hit-Girl as well.
To help celebrate the 10th anniversary of Kick-Ass, Mark Millar and John Romita Jr.’s Kick-Ass will return next year with a new character under the mask — Patience Lee, a black, female military veteran with kids. While previous volumes were published by Marvel’s Icon line, this one will find a home at Image Comics, according to Entertainment Weekly.
“When we sold Millarworld to Netflix, two properties weren’t part of the deal. Kingsman and Kick-Ass both had unique arrangements with Matthew Vaughn and it made sense for these to continue, so in the year or so where we were preparing the sale I came up with this great idea for a whole new take on Kick-Ass,” Millar told EW. “The entire story was all completely written in that year and it’s a monthly book, launching in February for the title’s 10th anniversary. It’s crazy to think that in the 10 years since it was created, Kick-Ass has spawned two Hollywood movies, video games, toys, key rings, PEZ dispensers and even an upcoming board game. So the idea of it lying dormant was just insane and to be honest it’s the most fun I’ve ever had writing anything. I really love that world.”

Batman and Wonder Woman will team up to solve the mystery of a dead Irish god in a six-issue miniseries.
DC Comics will resurrect The Brave and the Bold next year starring Batman and Wonder Woman, in a six-issue series by Liam Sharp. The duo will team up to solve the mystery of who killed an Irish god.
“The fact that they’ve pegged it to ‘The Brave and the Bold’ makes so much sense. It’s thrilling,” Sharp told The Washington Post’s Comic Riffs. “It kind of gave it even more gravitas and gave it a real reason for being. It just seemed like perfect timing. There’s an element of classicness to the whole concept as well. It just gives it more weight.”

‘It’s a weird amalgam of other stories I’ve done.’
In recent years Anders Nilsen has published a number of books that have been hard to categorize. From Rage of Poseidon to Poetry is Useless to the reissue of his earlier Don’t Go Where I Can’t Follow, Nilsen has shown himself to be not just a talented artist and storyteller but a gifted designer whose books are carefully considered objects in their own right.
As brilliant as each of those books are, like a lot of comics readers I’ve been waiting for Nilsen to announce his next big project. Big Questions, which was published in a single volume in 2011, was an epic story in a way that goes far beyond the book’s length. Nilsen has just published Tongues #1, the first part of a much longer story, and he was kind enough to take time to talk about the comic, his plans and the book’s landscape.

Christopher Sebela, Gavin Guidry, Marissa Louise and Micah Meyers seek to crowdfund a new historical occult adventure miniseries
Christopher Sebela (High Crimes, Evolution, Short Order Crooks) returns to Kickstarter for a very timely miniseries — one set in the 1920s — that pits Harry Houdini against Arthur Conan Doyle in a “battle of wills, words, faith, science, fisticuffs, handguns and magic.” And he’s joined by artist Gavin Guidry, colorist Marissa Louise and letterer Micah Meyers on The Death Defying, which is now up on Kickstarter.

Simmons teams with artist Patrick Keck for “Twilight of the Bat.”
A few years back Black River creator Josh Simmons shared with the world a very well–received and unauthorized Batman comic, which you can read right now on the Study Group website.
Now Simmons has returned to “G—– City” with artist Patrick Keck to tell another story about “Bats,” his buddy “Joke Man” and some mysterious cupcakes. “Twilight of the Bat” debuted this past weekend at the Short Run Comix and Arts Festival in Seattle, and is now available on the Cold Cube Press website.
A ‘genre-defying series of disparate one-shots’ from W. Maxwell Prince, Martín Morazzo and Chris O’Halloran will tell ‘odd little stories about broken people and their complicated interior lives.’
Who wants ice cream? Image Comics has announced that W. Maxwell Prince, Martín Morazzo and Chris O’Halloran are breaking out the sprinkles for Ice Cream Man, a “genre-defying series of disparate one-shots” arriving this January.
“I’m jazzed to be working with Martín and Chris to bring folks these odd little stories about broken people and their complicated interior lives,” said Prince. “With any luck, there’s something yummy here for all stripes of reader, no matter their tastes.”

It looks like a second miniseries will arrive in 2018.
David Pepose and Jorge Santiago Jr. turned heads with their Sin City/Calvin & Hobbes mash-up Spencer & Locke this year, and it looks like the miniseries from Action Lab Entertainment is getting a sequel:
‘Motherland’ from Si Spurrier and Rachael Stott, and ‘Deathbed’ by Joshua Williamson and Riley Rossmo arrive from Vertigo early next year.
Vertigo turns 25 next year, and DC Comics co-publishers Jim Lee and Dan Didio revealed at New York Comic Con plans to relaunch the line next August. But that doesn’t mean we have to wait until then for new series announcements, as today Mark Doyle, Executive Editor of Vertigo, revealed two new miniseries in New York.

Pornsak Pichetshote and Aaron Campbell team up for ‘Infidel,’ a horror story with political undertones.
Former Vertigo editor Pornsak Pichetshote and artist Aaron Campbell are teaming up for a new horror title that will explore Islamophobia called Infidel. Per the press release, it’s the story of an American Muslim woman and her multi-ethnic neighbors “who move into a building haunted by creatures that feed on xenophobia.”
“I’m a huge fan of horror and was really interested in a horror story that more accurately reflected the multi-racial world we live in and the fears that seem to come with it,” said Pichetshote. “Aaron, Jose, Jeff, and I are really trying to take a classic horror staple—the haunted house—and update everything about it—setting it in the heart of the city, giving it a multi-racial cast where those backgrounds actually matter to the turns of our story, and centering our horror around the very distinct fears of today. I’ve taken to calling Infidel ‘political horror,’ and while we’ve been cooking this project for a while, the success of movies like Get Out make us optimistic that audiences will be as hungry to read something like this as we are to make it.”
