Archie Horror’s ‘Month of Mayhem’ returns for a second year

Madam Satan, the Toybox of Terror and more will return in new one-shots from the publisher.

After slowing down during the pandemic, the Archie Horror line found new life last year when the publisher unleashed a wave of one-shots for the Halloween horror season. This year the publisher has planned another “Month of Mayhem” for the fall, with new chills and returning characters.

“We’re so excited to return to our Month of Mayhem event this year, celebrating all things horror and Halloween throughout October,” said Archie Comics Senior Director of Editorial Jamie L. Rotante. “From a psychological thriller in Welcome to Riverdale and a collection of middle-grade horror tales in Toybox of Terror, not to mention all the Halloween fun in our classic-style comics and digests, there’s truly something for every Halloween lover from Archie!”

Here’s a look at what to prepare for.

‘Black’s Myth’ returns with a new miniseries this summer

Eric Palicki and Wendell Cavalcanti head back into L.A.’s seedy supernatural underground in ‘Black’s Myth: The Key to his Heart.’

Black’s Myth, the story of a werewolf PI named Strummer who lives in Los Angeles and tries unsuccessfully to avoid the supernatural world, will return with a new miniseries from Ahoy Comics this summer.

The first miniseries by writer Eric Palicki and artist Wendell Cavalcanti came out in 2022, introducing the world to Janie Jones “Strummer” Mercado and her djinn assistant Ben Si’lat. The new story, titled Black’s Myth: The Key to his Heart, will involve Strummer trying to save a young girl from becoming a monster, as well as reveal a more sympathetic side to the character whose name appears in the title.

“I’ve made a terrible mistake, and I don’t just mean pursuing a career in comics!” Palicki said. “How can we continue calling our book Black’s Myth unless Strummer once again finds herself in the orbit of her enigmatic client-turned-nemesis Rainsford Black? Hopefully, Volume Two reveals Mister Black to be a little less mysterious and perhaps a tad more sympathetic, as Wendell and I build on the unanswered questions of the first volume while also delivering a new mystery for Strums and Ben to unravel.”

As the Earth dies due to the climate crisis, the ultra-rich head into space, thinking they’re safe — until a murderer begins targeting them.

“I could not be more excited to explore new frontiers of wealth and violence in Know Your Station, a series in which space is no longer the one place that hasn’t been corrupted by capitalism,” said Gailey. “Working with Liana Kangas to develop this series has been a source of incredible creative joy, and there couldn’t be a better home for this story than BOOM! I am just thrilled to get to work with Liana to shine a light on the gory inner workings of the 1%.”
