Clover Press launches a creator-owned graphic novel line, The Fourth Leaf

The publisher will launch the imprint with projects by Doug Wagner, Daniel Hillyard, Steve Niles, Sean Lewis and Jonathan Marks Barravecchia.

Clover Press has become well known for everything from their Marvel and DC art books to their comic strip reprints. Now the boutique publisher is launching a line of creator-owned graphic novels, calling the imprint The Fourth Leaf. (Clever name, right?)

“We’re living in an unparalleled time of creativity and opportunity in the comic book industry,” said Clover Press Publisher Hank Kanalz. “We may not have flying cars (yet) and we may not be living on space stations (yet), but we are absolutely living in the future of near endless creative possibilities. It’s our distinct pleasure at Clover Press to spotlight some of the stories that resonate deeply with us, and connect them directly to readers looking for something new and different. These are bold, bloody and pulpy stories by fearless creators, and we’re proud to provide them a place to create without limits. These are stories to invigorate and ignite the future.”

Their first three projects under the new imprint are:

  • I Love Apocalyptic Zombie Misfits! by longtime collaborators Doug Wagner and Daniel Hillyard, the team behind Narco, Plastic, Vinyl and many more.
  • Bear Pirate Viking Queen by Sean Lewis and Jonathan Marks Barravecchia, a hardcover collection of the Image Comics series.
  • Cal McDonald: Plague of Evil and Other Stories, a return to his supernatural detective character by writer Steve Niles, who will team up with a “superstar line-up of international artists” for this short story collection

Like most projects from Clover Press, all three will be funded through Kickstarter. See below for more information on these first three projects.

Doug Wagner + Daniel Hillyard awaken ‘Narco’ at Image Comics

The five-issue miniseries begins in March.

Plastic and Vinyl creators Doug Wagner and Daniel Hillyard will return with a new five-issue miniseries from Image Comics next March. Narco is the story of a narcoleptic whose condition hits him at the worst possible time — leaving him the prime suspect in a murder.

“If you haven’t figured it out yet, Daniel and I are a little bit obsessed with quirky horror, AND we’re both huge fans of Alfred Hitchcock,” said Wagner. “We’ve been talking for years about what OUR version of his works would look like. Well, Narco is that version. It combines our weird sense of horror and humor with classics like Rear Window and Psycho.”

‘Gotham City Sirens’ returns in August for a four-week event

Leah Williams, Matteo Lolli, Daniel Hillyard, Brandt & Stein, and more will bring Catwoman, Poison Ivy and Harley Quinn together again.

The Gotham City Sirens will converge once more for a four-week miniseries in August, temporarily replacing the ongoing titles for Catwoman, Harley Quinn, and Poison Ivy that month.

DC announced the miniseries today, which will be written by Leah Williams with artwork by Matteo Lolli, Daniel Hillyard and Brandt & Stein. Triona Farrell will color each issue, while Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou provides lettering.

In addition to Catwoman, Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy, the miniseries will feature Punchline, White Rabbit and “the cowboy-henchmen sensation soon to be sweeping the nation known as the Nasty Boys.” Here’s a look at the Nasty Boys, as designed by Lolli:

Doug Wagner + Daniel Hillyard return to the twisted world of ‘Plastic’

The prequel miniseries, ‘Death & Dolls,’ kicks off in June.

Doug Wagner and Daniel Hillyard’s Plastic gets a prequel this summer — Plastic: Death & Dolls. They’re joined on their journey into the world of serial killers and depravity by colorist Michelle Madsen and letterer Ed Dukeshire.

If you missed the first miniseries, it’s about a reformed serial killer, Edwyn, who tries to stay on the straight and narrow for the sake of his true love — a plastic doll named Virginia.

“Getting to spend some quality time with Edwyn again after… well, what seems like only yesterday, really, was just so much fun,” Hillyard said. “Who would have thought that a story about a serial killer in love with a blow-up sex doll would turn out to be so loved, and get a sequel to-boot. It’s a wild crazy ride, and I’m not just saying this, but you won’t want to miss the ending.”

A sunflower-farmer death cult and serial killers inhabit the world of ‘Vinyl’

The new Image Comics miniseries by Doug Wagner, Daniel Hillyard and Dave Stewart debuts in June.

Doug Wagner and Daniel Hillyard, the creators of Plastic, are teaming up again on Vinyl, a new miniseries from Image Comics. They’ll be joined by colorist Dave Stewart for a comic about serial killers, death cults and friendship.

“This is all Daniel Hillyard’s fault,” said Wagner. “He asked if I thought we could create a story about serial killers, inhuman monsters and a cult of sunflower farmers all trapped together inside an underground bunker. I mean, you have to do that, right?”
