Marvel revives the Forgiven for a mini-event by Tim Seeley and Sid Kotian next year

The team, which first appeared during ‘Fear Itself,’ will team with Spider-Man, the X-Men and the Avengers across three one-shots.

Marvel is reviving an obscure team of superhero vampires that first appeared during the 2011 event Fear Itself for a mini-event that will be published next year.

Spider-Man: Unforgiven will kick things off, by Tim Seeley and Sid Kotian. Mini-events, as we’ve taken to describing them, are a series of connected one-shots that typically feature a similar theme or hero. In the past they might have been miniseries, but Marvel has brilliantly come up with a way to ensure every issue has a #1 on it.

The three-part Unforgiven will kick off with the Spider-Man issue, to be followed by one-shots featuring the X-Men and the Avengers teaming up with The Forgiven. They first appeared in the Fear Itself: Hulk vs. Dracula miniseries by Victor Gischler and Ryan Stegman.

“I love Marvel super heroes, no doubt, but I’ve got a special obsession with Marvel’s horror heroes,” Seeley told Marvel.com. “Unforgiven gives that creepy, sexy, weird underbelly a chance to shine as a horrific conspiracy unites a crew of vampires with Spider-Man, the X-Men and Captain America, and shows us the stark differences (and surprisingly similarities) of those who are gifted with the ability to fight evil, and those who have to carry evil’s curse. By the end of this epic event, we’ll have toured a lot of dark corners of the Marvel Universe, and reminded readers that monsters are at its shrunken black heart!”

Marvel celebrates 60 years of the Wasp with a new miniseries

Two Wasps team up in a new story by Al Ewing and Kasia Nie.

Following up on his work on the Ant-Man miniseries, writer Al Ewing will turn his attention to Hank Pym’s partner and former wife, Janet Van Dyne, for a new Wasp miniseries that kicks off in January.

Ewing will be joined by artist Kasia Nie, while Tom Reilly, who worked with Ewing on the Ant-Man series, will provide covers. The miniseries will feature both Wasps — Janet Van Dyne and her adopted daughter, Nadia Van Dyne.

“The Ant-Man series was a whole lot of fun and gave me a new appreciation for Janet Van Dyne and her world – and when I went digging into her past, there was a whole story there just waiting to be unearthed,” Ewing told Marvel.com. “If you weren’t a fan of the Wondrous Wasp before – not to mention her adopted daughter Nadia Van Dyne – you will be when we’re done!”

Mary Jane Watson teams with the Black Cat for new ‘Dark Web’ miniseries

Jed MacKay and Vincenzo Carratù bring together the former rivals in December.

Two of Spider-Man’s ex’s will team up in a new miniseries this December, as a part of the bigger Dark Web crossover event Marvel announced at the San Diego Comic Con earlier this year.

The series will be written by Jed McKay, who wrote the most recent Black Cat series as well as the Black Cat/Mary Jane one-shot that tied into the “Beyond” storyline in Amazing Spider-Man. He will work with artist Vincenzo Carratù on the series, who has drawn several series for Dynamite in recent years.

“I’ve kind of lost track of how many lives Felicia has left at this point, but she keeps coming back- and this time she’s brought a friend,” MacKay told Marvel.com. “Getting back to Mary Jane and Black Cat after their one-shot last year has been a delight—and seeing how they’ve been catching up on all the drama that’s happened since then has been, well, catnip.”

Slugfest | ‘Radio Apocalypse’ goes on indefinite hiatus

Plus: A new Secret Stash title, Poison Ivy grows and Marvel Masterworks gets reprinted.

Vault Comics and writer Ram V have announced via press release that the comic series Radio Apocalypse will go on “an indefinite hiatus.” The series, which suffered delays before launch, only saw two issues published.

“We launched this book with much excitement and to celebration and acclaim,” Ram V said in the statement. “And for that I have readers, retailers and everyone who worked on this book to thank. Unfortunately, in the time since, Anand, Aditya and I have been through some rough times. I will allow everyone including myself some privacy but suffice to say health issues, bouts of COVID and some difficult family emergencies on my end have meant that we have been unable to work on this book with the care and attention it deserves.”

The series, which reunited Ram V with Anand RK, who he worked with on Grafity’s Wall, was about the last radio station on Earth.

A former Captain Marvel gets her first solo series in December

Eve L. Ewing and Michael Sta. Maria send Monica Rambeau on a cosmic adventure later this year.

Former Avengers, Ultimates and Nextwave member Monica Rambeau will get her first solo miniseries later this year. Marvel has announced that writer Eve L. Ewing and artist Michael Sta. Maria will tell a cosmic story featuring the former Captain Marvel starring in December.

“It’s such an honor to be taking on the story of a legacy character like Monica Rambeau,” Ewing said. “Monica’s character has a long history in the Marvel Universe, but she’s way overdue for getting her own story told. I’m picking the pen up from the legend himself, Dwayne McDuffie, who put out the last Monica Rambeau solo adventure almost three decades ago. It’s a privilege and I’m excited to tell the story in a way that both highlights her incredible cosmic abilities as well as her everyday, relatable struggles. I hope this will be a title that has something equal to offer to veteran readers and folks who may be brand new to comics.”

Marvel Multiverse Role-Playing Game officially launches in 2023

Marvel will release a core rulebook and an adventure featuring Kang next summer.

Following the release of the “playtest rulebook” this past spring, Marvel has announced plans to release the core rulebook for their Marvel Multiverse table-top role-playing game next June. That’ll be followed by an adventure book titled The Cataclysm of Kang next July.

If you’re confused, don’t be — the previously released rulebook was essentially a beta test of the new gaming system, allowing Marvel to get feedback from players before releasing the final rules.

“We’re absolutely thrilled with the volume and quality of the feedback the narrators and players gave us on the Playtest Rulebook, and we truly took it to heart for in the core rulebook,” game co-designer Matt Forbeck told Marvel.com. “We have a huge playtest update coming out soon that streamlines the game and makes it even easier to understand and play. I can’t wait for fans to try it out ahead of the full release of these books next summer!”

Iron Man is ‘Invincible’ again in December relaunch

Gerry Duggan and Juan Frigeri chart a new path for Tony Stark.

Although Christopher Cantwell’s run on Iron Man comes to a close in November, Tony Stark won’t get much of a holiday break. Marvel has announced that the title will relaunch in December as Invincible Iron Man, by the creative team of Gerry Duggan and Juan Frigeri.

“It’s my privilege to try and follow Christopher Cantwell and his collaborators’ stellar run on Iron Man heading into an anniversary year,” Duggan said. “Juan and I are going to introduce a new menace that is gunning for Tony Stark and his greatest creation. We have an epic tale for Stark and plans for old foes, including flashbacks to some of his classic armors. How about a little Silver Centurion for his diamond anniversary? Armor up, you’re gonna need it.”

It’s the 1990s all over again this November

DC goes all in on celebrating the 1990s in November, but they aren’t the only ones willing to get ‘extreme.’

The decade of pouches, big guns, variant covers and Image Comics will come back in a big way this November at DC — and on a smaller scale at Marvel. Both publishers will get “extreme” in their own ways later this year.

Let’s start with DC, who earlier this week announced a new Black Label Batman miniseries by none other than Marc Silvestri. Silvestri of course is one of the founders of Image Comics and is one of the names synonymous with 1990s comics, when he launched Top Cow and introduced the world to Witchblade, CyberForce, The Darkness and many other comics.

Batman/The Joker: The Deadly Duo finds the caped crusader teaming up with his worst enemy.

“Batman and The Joker are two of the world’s most iconic characters and have been at each other’s throats for more than 80 years,” Silvestri said. “I always thought is would be pretty entertaining to have them on the same side, so I wrote a story about it. Needless to say, stuff happens.”

Return to ‘Planet Hulk’ in November’s ‘Worldbreaker’

Greg Pak and Manuel Garcia head into Sakaar’s distant future in a new miniseries.

Greg Pak will return once again to the planet of Sakaar, the deadly setting of the epic Planet Hulk storyline, for Planet Hulk: Worldbreaker.

The five-issue miniseries will be drawn by Manuel Garcia, Cam Smith and Chris Sotomayor.

“Working on Planet Hulk remains one of the greatest experiences I’ve ever had in storytelling,” Pak told Marvel.com. “So it was a huge thrill to get the call from editor Mark Paniccia inviting me to dive back in. What makes this story feel so special is that we’re going back to Sakaar a thousand years in the future. That’s opened up doors to do some spectacular world-building with mind-blowing art from Manuel Garcia, Cam Smith and Chris Sotomayor. And we’re exploring big emotional stories that pay off the huge themes of the Hulk and the Green Scar that I’ve built over many years through all my Hulk stories. In a time of change and crisis, what do we do with the power we have, and how do we handle the terrifying repercussions? A thousand years from now, who knows where those questions will take us?”

‘Deadpool’ returns to his own title by Alyssa Wong + Martin Coccolo

The Merc with a Mouth will return to his own title in November, courtesy of writer Alyssa Wong and artist Martin Coccolo.

Marvel announces a mini-event built around Murderworld for the fall

Jim Zub and Ray Fawkes will guide the Avengers, Moon Knight and more into Arcade’s infamous amusement park later this year.

Arcade’s Murderworld will take the spotlight this fall in a new mini-event written by Jim Zub and Ray Fawkes, and featuring artwork by Jethro Morales in the first issue.

Murderworld: Avengers will kick things off in November and will be followed by one-shots featuring Moon Knight, Wolverine and Spider-Man. No doubt some sort of wrap-up “omega” issue will wrap things up, as these mini-events tend to do.

“When I first saw Murderworld in an issue of Uncanny X-Men, I was fascinated by its colorful corniness mixed with deception and violence,” Zub told Marvel.com. “Many years ago, Ray and I chatted about a twisted thriller-survival story set in Arcade’s deadly playground and now, starting with Murderworld: Avengers, we’re finally getting the chance to unleash it!”

‘Thanos: Death Notes’ anthology explores the villain’s past + future

The one-shot spins out of recent issues of ‘Thor’ and ‘Eternals.’

No matter how many times you go for the head, Thanos just keeps coming back. The Mad Titan will return in November as Marvel releases Thanos: Death Notes, an anthology of stories about his past, present and future.

The anthology will include tales by Ron Lim, J. Michael Straczynski, Torunn Grønbekk, Kyle Starks, Christopher Cantwell, Andrea Di Vito, Travel Foreman and more, with Thor playing a big role.

“Ever since the Black Winter gave Thor a glimpse of how he was going to die way back in Thor #6, and Thor saw that it was going to be at the hands of a Thanos wielding not only an Infinity Stones-encrusted Mjolnir but also seemingly a new black Infinity Stone (not to mention with an army of undead super heroes and villains at his side), Thor has been working to prevent this horrific fate,” said editor Wil Moss. “In this Thanos one-shot, his quest brings him to look to Thanos’ past for clues.
